His family was very powerful in that county. They pretty much were the justice system in that county

Murdaugh apparently didn't meet the bar. I can't imagine how hard the fall must be from a life of luxury to being just another number in a prison, eating prison food, and living with other criminals. I am really sad for the poor murderer....
