MAGA conservatives turn Idaho college into a 'dystopian farce' in hostile partisan takeover

Republican activists took over a college in the Idaho panhandle and have driven it into the ground.

Trustees backed by the Kootenai County GOP took over the governing majority of North Idaho College and denounced alleged liberal "indoctrination" by the faculty and vowed to root out "deep state" corruption in the school administration, but their leadership resulted in lawsuits from two of the past five school presidents and Moody's downgraded their debt over “significant governance and management dysfunction," reported the New York Times.

“As a businessperson here, it’s heartbreaking to me to be standing on the brink of the loss of this institution,” said Eve Knudtsen, a Republican who owns a Chevrolet dealership outside of Couer d'Alene.

The regional higher education commission warned the 90-year-old college known for its technical training programs could be stripped of its accreditation if changes weren't made within weeks, which would effectively shut down the community college attended by about 4,600 students.

They've done it to public schools.

They are trying to do it for colleges and universities. Community Colleges are the first step.

Then public universities. Then private universities they don't like. Bob Jones, Liberty, Grand Canyon, and Oral Roberts are fine.

...of what awaits local institutions across the country as fiercely partisan and disruptive cultural battles spread into new corners of public life. He and other critics of the trustees see parallels with Gov. Ron DeSantis’s efforts to remake New College, a state-run liberal arts school in Sarasota, Fla., as a conservative bastion.

Except, according to the NYT, this has been more voter driven -- heavily RW area, and examination shows "the results are more organizational than ideological chaos."

But the warning is real anyway.

NYT: "For most of the past two years, the college’s governing board has been a volatile experiment in turning grievances into governance."

RW cray-cray grievance, of course. "Make NIC great again!"

Thank goodness they're working on it. More are newly aware and chastened by the immediate prospect of losing accreditation. It's the 6th largest employer in town, on top of all the other rolling disasters.

"The threat of losing accreditation — which would leave the school ineligible for federal financial aid and students’ future credits worthless if they transfer — has drawn local business leaders off the sidelines."

And, "A district court judge ordered one of those presidents reinstated on Friday in a ruling that castigated the trustees for “steering N.I.C. toward an iceberg.” The college has lost professors and staff and had its debt downgraded by Moody’s, which cited the school's “significant governance and management dysfunction.”

"Sarah Palin, former Alaska Governor and 2008 Vice Presidential candidate, attended North Idaho College during the Spring 1983 semester before transferring to the University of Idaho."]

Apparently Sarah still has 5 other "colleges" she attended to choose from-wow
