MSNBC's Rachel Maddow began her Monday show by talking about authoritarian leaders and their attempts to fight the legal system.
First, it was former Vice President Spiro Agnew, who proclaimed that he'd done nothing wrong, he would not be indicted, and even if he was, he wouldn't resign. Eleven days later, he was indicted, and he resigned. She noted his speech was remarkably similar to the speech that Donald Trump gave over the weekend to CPAC.
"Can you get him to say, 'I am not a crook,' too?" she joked.

(14,176 posts)I like Alex Wagner's show and IMO the stuff she's done talking about repubs fucking with education is invaluable, but Maddow is destination viewing for me.

Professional sports has played a role in the past.

The tourism part is easy, for me at least. I have absolutely no plans to visit GA or any other godforsaken red state in the foreseeable future.

(16,348 posts)They obviously want to stop Fani Willis from prosecuting Trump. How horrifying is it that)
I cannot believe this is still the United States of America. Sometimes I feel like I'm trapped in that old Star Trek episode where a transporter malfunction caused Kirk and Co. to be sent to a parallel universe that was almost, but not quite, a duplicate of theirs. I felt this way all the time when Trump was in office. It was better for a while, once he was no longer in the White House, until it started getting SO MUCH WORSE again.
I find it bitterly ironic that GA wants to crack down on "rogue prosecutors." I think one of the biggest problems facing this country right now is rogue state legislatures making crazy laws like this one (and too many others to mention). It feels like half the states in this country have been taken over by alien beings who don't share a single scrap of allegiance to the ideals of democracy that we hold so dear or to anything this country is supposed to stand for. Wtf is WRONG with people?
