Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern roasted for baffling tweet about the Challenger explosion and hog farming

On March 3, U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) posted a confusing tweet to his official account that seemingly referenced how the Challenger space shuttle explosion, his career as a hog farmer and his purchase of a McDonald’s franchise led to him being elected to Congress.

Rep. Kevin Hern

@repkevinhern
After the Challenger tragically exploded, my dreams of being an astronaut were cut short.

But I did what I had to do – including hog farming – to purchase my first McDonalds in 1997.

Today, I am honored to represent #OK01 in the U.S. Congress.

Never EVER give up.

The comments on Hern’s post have mostly referenced the random series of events and unclear point of Hern’s post, which seemingly is a testament to the American Dream. However, some are critical of the fact Hern is associating himself with a disaster he had nothing to do with.

Hern was first elected to Congress in 2018, when he defeated Tim Harris to represent Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District. His name was included in the eighth ballot to elect a Speaker of the House, when holdouts like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert were protesting the election of Kevin McCarthy. Hern himself voted for McCarthy, and he never got more than seven votes.

The dude worked at Rockwell when the Challenger exploded... he lost his job.

Simple as that.

So he worked a bunch of other crap and bought a McDonalds store.

Probably got help from family... lol...

But "baffling"???... these click bait articles, sigh...

Is that the gist here?

And after SN 1987A in the Large Magellanic Cloud went supernova, I decided to quit preparing to be a blue supergiant.

to be a Formula 1 driver.

I heard he once pushed the pit crew out of the way so he could change the tires faster.

It's a series of events that apparently culminated in his election.

Maybe his dreams of becoming an astronaut were far fetched?
