I have never, and will never, watch Carlson. But - a few thoughts about what he is, and is doing

First - he is a mental midget - he is playing with fire - he has no true idea of what he is doing.

Why? Because he is not serious about anything. The texts and tweets show that he is totally absent any moral fiber - or any morals whatsoever. He views politics as some sort of game he is playing. He doesn't understand propaganda and the terrible things it does.

He is perhaps two things - a psychopathic narcissist (borderline personality disorder) - and someone who is concerned solely about attention and personal wealth.

What he is doing is incredibly dangerous on so many levels. What I wonder is, why isn't it illegal on many levels? This comes off as treasonous to me. He belongs muzzled and locked up for the rest of his life.

much like yelling "FIRE!" in a theater, but you know, First Amendment. And as someone always points out to me, these are private entities - corporations - employing individuals who are distributed by private cable assets and carried to the public on wired networks. So not FCC regulated. Somehow that wasn't a very wise choice.

Exactly what he is trying to prove.

Obviously, not every insurrectionist was being violent for every moment of the four or five hours duration of the insurrection. Is he hoping to 'prove' that by airing some of the non-violent moments, it is proof that the violent ones did not occur?

The whole concept of using the footage in this way is ridiculous and illogical. But I guess that what Carlson and his audience are; ridiculous and illogical.

The simple reason he lies is that he wants his audience to hate liberals as much as he does, and the truth doesn't work. Like Limbaugh, he attempts to irreconcilably divide the country in a game that's scored by how much money he makes.

Akin to giving blueprints of one of our nuclear subs to Russia. Sadly for the horrible sad disgusting human being we are writing about, he’ll never get his hands on such a document, but there is no doubt his allegiance is not to our country.

"He is perhaps two things - a psychopathic narcissist (borderline personality disorder) - and someone who is concerned solely about attention and personal wealth."

People with those traits seem to be attracted to high profile positions & positions of power. They can smell opportunity a mile away. They also know that it's often far easier to cause and encourage disorder than to improve upon and maintain order. They're also convinced that if they get wealthy enough on the way to a less orderly society, they'll be just fine.

Freedom of speech and the press. Though it's easy to question whether or not Faux News really qualifies as press. It's closer to propaganda.

Here's a good article on the differences.

Distinguishing among news, opinion and propaganda

Published on June 20, 2018

https://newslit.org/educators/civic-blog/distinguishing-among-news-opinion-and-propaganda/

When learning about a cause or an issue, students need to recognize whether they are reading news, opinion or propaganda.

When you watch cable news programs on CNN, Fox or MSNBC, do you notice how often they switch between straight news reporting and commentary? Snip...

What Is News?

What we call “quality journalism” aspires to ethical standards. These are codified, with some variations, by professional journalism associations, journalism schools and individual news organizations. These standards include:
Truthfulness/accuracy: Verifying all details that can be checked; using multiple original sources (individuals and documentation) wherever possible.
Independence: Putting the interests of the public above self-interest or special interests.
Balance: Giving a voice to multiple perspectives.
Fairness/avoidance of bias: Presenting facts and details in appropriate context, using neutral language.
Accountability: Acknowledging errors and correcting them promptly.
Snip...

Opinion vs. Propaganda

Here’s where things can get a little tricky. The key is to determine the purpose of what you’re reading, watching or hearing.

But the only difference is he had the authority to release the info to the press and she didn't, so off to prison she went.

The tapes McCarthy handed over to Carlson were not all checked and redacted for sensitive depictions of where/what security routes are at the Capitol, etc.

That is what the OP thinks should be illegal. And I imagine it would be, if one of us released this info. But instead it was McCarthy who released it, even though he has a duty to safeguard that security info. But he has the authority ho release it, so he did, as part of his Speakership bargain with the Q caucus. Should that be legal? What if McCarthy released it directly to Putin? How about indirectly, via Carlson?

Trump's been lying and committing what we consider treason ever since he took office, doubled down after leaving office, still going strong and still free to do and say as he pleases.

Tucker is just postulating an opinion to his audience. The true misfortune is the fact it's what they want to hear.

He knew what Tuckems would do with it. He sold out the security of our nation's Capitol in his devil's bargain with the Q caucus to become Speaker. That's why he released the tapes to Carlson. Marge told him to.
