It was surprising the number of Republican Senators that stepped forward to criticize Tucker Carlson's latest attempt to whitewash what happened on January 6th. Mitch McConnell was very upfront in stating that he believed what the Capitol Police Chief had said about what happened and not the lies of Tucker Carlson. Several fell in line to echo the Minority Leader. Thom Tillis called Tucker's report "bullshit".
For Trump and his accessories, this was the worst time for them to be deserted by the Republican Senators. It could give new energy to the Justice Department and the Special Counsel? If Republican Senators are no longer going to defend what happened on January 6th, that is a big development.
Trump showed his desperation on his Truth Social page. He posted a video of Hunter Biden, naked and with a gun, having consensual sex. Totally inappropriate and irrelevant. But, it does show the degree of his desperation.

(31,015 posts)I don't think he's feckless. He is going to quietly assist in the downfall of magatwerld. I think it will be his last hurrah but I think he means to take help take them down, he's a lot smarter than any of them and he's an alum of the before times when people in the Senate were mostly sane and not total pricks.

(31,015 posts)How much longer does he want to let the lies continue to undermine the national security of United States? He was real good at stopping every piece of progressive legislation they came to him. Lets see if hes good at stopping a dictator. I do think the current majority of the Republican party is feckless to do anything about the MAGAs
I agree that the majority of them are feckless. Mitch is a far different story, though. And he is a close friend with Biden which makes me think they have a plan to take down the magats once and for all and I think it will work if they are both working together to bring it about.

(16,372 posts)He's had his fill of Trump and then some. I don't think he's planning to run for reelection again (don't quote me on that, but I seem to recall reading something to that effect at some point), which would mean that he 's free to plot against Trump without having to worry about losing MAGA votes. I believe things are going to get interesting.

(111,080 posts)I think he now sees Trump as a liability. The Republicans in the House are not yet there. But, it only takes one member to call up a vote to keep McCarthy as Speaker. It could happen.
The attendance at CPAC was a factor in Mitch's decision, in my opinion. He now believes Trump is a liability to the Party.

(43,140 posts)Biden occupies the patriotic American center on UKR and confronts Russia. That's where the GOP stood for 80 years. Suddenly they sense the tide is turning against them, and they're in a flimsy rowboat. Watch them paddle faster.

(86,569 posts)For me, what I noticed, was during the STOU when Mitch was suddenly on camera, something about the call out he was receiving brought on an epiphanous thought; that they have been discussing how to get rid of the plague in the government and I think they have a solution which will play out over the year.
A gut feeling makes me think it is what's up at the moment between those two, Brothers of a more sane Senate wanting to restore order and dignity to the place.

(6,171 posts)Personally I think Speaker McCarthy should be censured for giving Carlson all that J6 material without a House vote on it.
Actually, his position should be challenged and once more put to a vote. His actions were despicable.

(86,569 posts)And it would only take four or five to vote for Jeffries to totally change the trajectory of the House.

(4,913 posts)Maybe the Republicans know indictments are near for the coup plotters. There is no doubt something changed yesterday. They have been mostly silent about the attack on the Capital.

(8,724 posts)Trump will end Carlson for speaking against him.
McCarthy spoke against trump on J7. Then went to Mardi Lardo and got on his knees.
Now Trump owns McCarthy. And pulls bud strings. And gave him a seat.
Graham spoke against trump on J7. Then went to Mardi Lardo to Golf
on his knees. (Hard to do) Now trump owns Graham even more. And pulls his strings. Gives him a senate seat.
Trump will continue to own Tuckums, cause he may have nowhere else to go. Trumps base makes Tuckums millions, no one else is stupid enough to buy his shit. Therefore, trump owns Tuckums. His only option is to lose his stardom, and sit at home eating Frozen Fish Sticks. (That never expire b/c packed with chemicals)
