WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

Arkansas governor signs bill rolling back child labor protections

Washington
CNN

Arkansas Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a bill into law this week that rolls back a number of child labor protections across the state, including a measure that had required employers to obtain work certificates for children under the age of 16.

“The Governor believes protecting kids is most important, but this permit was an arbitrary burden on parents to get permission from the government for their child to get a job,” Sanders’ spokesperson Alexa Henning said in a statement. “All child labor laws that actually protect children still apply and we expect businesses to comply just as they are required to do now.”

Previously, minors under the age of 16 needed to verify their age and get the written consent of a parent or guardian before a work certificate could be issued by the state’s Division of Labor. But H.B. 1410, known as the Youth Hiring Act of 2023, which passed the Arkansas state legislature earlier this month, no longer requires youth under the age of 16 to have that work certificate as a condition of their employment.

]The bill’s passage comes after the Biden administration announced last month plans to crackdown on labor exploitation of migrant children across the country, the New York Times reported, following an investigation conducted by the publication.

You aren't going to see middle class White teenagers working in meat packing or other dangerous jobs. This is about exploiting exploitable labor so that Corporations and other unethical business owners can maintain their profits.

We need to open our eyes rather than be shocked about "the new low" that Conservatives have "sunk too". They never went anywhere. They have done anything that was allowable or that they could get away with since Child Labor Laws were first enacted. They have used everything in their power to maintain the system as close to optimal for them. Now, as the nation actually continues to progress, we are seeing a surge in Conservatives exploiting any power they get to entrench the most regressive policies. I think that many of them see the writing on the wall and they want to dig in deep, like Ticks so that it is really difficult to get them out of power.

The biggest concern is that with right wing media, the people who keep voting them into office, are basically mesmerized and are not hearing real information about the world. They seem to enjoy the cruelty, until they feel it themselves, but then right wing media simply blames their pain on immigrants, the "woke mob", socialism, or whatever other boogeyman they can use to scare people.

said every Christofascist out there at one time or another.

I'd like to see her put in a real day's hard work. Maybe fast food. Let he feel how her back and feet feel after a week of having to hustle at a real job. Then we'll have a talk about doing that to kids.

That will never happen, of course, so I hope she does reap the whirlwind from mothers who would prefer to see their children grow up as something besides underpaid workers doing dangerous jobs in Arkansas packing plants.

That's what this is about, you know. Children have always worked cheap.

to actually kick them out of the U.S.? That way they don't have to secede? They can say it wasn't their fault? (LOL) They just enact such brutal and self-serving, fascist laws that we end us saying "enough is enough" and kick them the frack out. But to where? I mean, at some point, something DOES have to give. We either DO have a civil war, or we divide this country up and kick them to their own little fascist piece of it, or something. Just voting doesn't seem to be enough, because they never accept the results. What is the end game? I'm at a loss and beginning to feel a hell of a lot of despair here.
