https://www.rawstory.com/matt-farriss-virginia/
According to the woman, who had been riding in the SUV's passenger seat, Del. Matt Fariss (R-Campbell County) was driving "excessively fast" on Thursday afternoon when a tire blew out, and police said he became furious while trying to change the tire, reported Cardinal News.
During [the] tire change he became irate with a son whom he called to come help, but [the] son did not have a jack, the woman told investigators, according to an affidavit. Then he became furious but his son didnt show up. His mood went dark and he was being angry and abusive.
The woman said she got out the vehicle and began walking toward a cousin's house nearby, and Fariss "was screaming" at her to get back into the SUV, but she "said a firm no and kept walking."
Fariss then turned sharply toward the woman as she walked and struck her with the SUV, knocking her to the ground and sending her sunglasses flying.
"[You] should have gotten into the godd*mn car," Fariss said, according to the woman.

(1,460 posts)However... Hammurabi's codes were unjust because because:
- the punishments were generally too harsh for ignorant people's wrong doings.
- and additionally gave the government too much power as those being assessed for punishment had no chance to debate for justice.
Nonetheless, I'm a huge fan of Darwin's award system and find great satisfaction by those that are "lifted by their own petard".

(1,460 posts)It's so very pleasant to have found a group of individuals within the virtual worlds in which reason is common, and progress is made.
Without reason, our freedoms do not exist.
Reason is the very source of our freedoms, and it is only through reason that we may sustain them.
Reason is the nature and backbone of our political party.
Delusion is the provenance of those that enshrine their "closely held beliefs" as law; i.e. Y'all Qaeda's Nat-C Fascist GOP.
Closely held beliefs are akin to genitals, it's okay to have them, it's okay to hold them closely.
It is not okay to enshrine them as "Dear Leader", nor is it okay to force them down other peoples throats.
Which is why I say...
May reason rule, where delusion dwells.

My "god" is reason.
As far as someone being a god damned thing...
Depends on one's "god", when one's "god" is delusion... It took me thirty years to escape mine...
I penned this around 15 years ago under the pseudonym Unh Huh and The Yeah Whatevers not long after I had finally escaped my delusions and began my journey of reason.
'Cause there's no easy way for a hardcore believer, when ya' trust in the schemes of the fools and the dreamers...
When jubilant elation meets ultimate sorrow, catastrophe's joy can take decades to swallow...
A sip at a time, was all I could stand, but only with lime and salt on my hand...
A lick and a swallow, and maybe tomorrow, I could learn how to be free...
Free of this undying love of the hardcore believers, this unshakeable faith in the fools and the dreamers, this holy devotion to "sins of the ages"...
May reason rule.

(1,460 posts)For all the things that Barry Goldwater got wrong (there's a long, long list!!), he got one thing right...
There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me... that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in A, B, C, and D. Just who do they think they are?
Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.
May reason rule!

(32,961 posts)snip-"Del. Matt Fariss, R-Campbell County, has been arrested on two felony charges following what Virginia State Police describe as a hit-and-run that injured a pedestrian and led to the woman obtaining a protective order against him.
Farriss, 54, is charged with one count of malicious wounding, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine; one count of failing to stop after an accident, a Class 5 felony; and one count of reckless driving, a Class 1 misdemeanor, according to state police and online court records.
While I may have made some mistakes in my life, these charges are false. I look forward to clearing them in a court of law, Fariss said in an email Tuesday."
snip-" Last weeks incident wasnt Fariss first brush with the law. In January 2016, he was charged with two incidents, including a misdemeanor breach of peace in a parking dispute, and a hit and run accident in which property was damaged but no people were hurt. He was found not guilty in the breach of peace and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor hit-and-run."
more there. The passenger is seeking a protective order against him BTW.

It was an accident, at a corner after dark, and the guy did slam on the brakes. I was well-padded because of freezing temperatures, so at first I felt no pain, and I walked home (several blocks). Then the pain started, and it never stopped. I hope this woman gets a lot of money.

And he needs anger management counseling at the very least.
