Chicago Mayoral Candidate Mocked Obama and Biden

A year before he became one of two Democrats left standing in the race for Chicago mayor, Paul Vallas went on a conservative radio show and mocked the last two Democratic presidents,” Politico reports.

“Appearing on Chicago’s Morning Answer program, Vallas rolled his eyes at former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama as they spoke about their new library in Hyde Park and laughed about them living in Martha’s Vineyard. Vallas, in a separate appearance a few months later, questioned whether President Joe Biden actually was the one running the White House.”

Every Wednesday for 2-3 years he spent several hours criticizing everything done by Lightfoot.

I stopped listening after writing to ask why he alone—a mayoral contender—was given the platform without the same opportunity going to others.

Lightfoot wasn’t the most stellar mayor but the likes of Vallas and his RW accomplices had a hand in her downfall.

He has a big, sprawling house in the burbs, and a row house in the city. Some shenanigans going on there.

Brandon Johnson gets my vote.

In February 2009, Vallas gave an interview to Carol Marin in the Chicago Sun-Times and stated that he planned to return to Cook County, Illinois in 2009 and run as a Republican for president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners in the 2010 race, forming an exploratory committee.[43] On June 11, 2009, Vallas announced that he would not be a candidate for President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners in 2010. Vallas stated that he could not "begin a political campaign while trying to finish what he started—rebuild the school system there in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina."[44]

From 2019 Mayor race:
Vallas also received a rare mayoral endorsement from the Chicago Republican Party.[62][63] Chicago Republican Party Chair Chris Cleveland called Vallas the "lesser of 13 evils." Vallas welcomed the endorsement, commenting, "This is a non-partisan election and I'm running for mayor to represent all Chicagoans. I've traveled to every ward and met with every constituency. The crisis that Chicago faces affects all citizens. I thank the Republican committee for their confidence in my candidacy."[63] Former Republican governor Bruce Rauner commented in an interview that, of those running, Vallas, "might make the best mayor."[64]

From 2023 Mayor race:
The month that he launched his campaign, Vallas appeared at a fundraising event for Awake IL, a political not-for-profit that has been criticized for its anti-LGBTQ rhetoric.[75] In August 2022, Vallas condemned the group saying "I am a lifelong Democrat who has spent my entire adult life fighting hateful rhetorical and hateful groups."[76] His claim of being a "lifelong Democrat" was called into question by some, who pointed to campaign contributions from prominent Republican donor Michael Keiser and Chicago Board of Elections records listing Vallas as having voted in the 2022 Republican Party primary election.[77] The Chicago Board of Elections later told reporters that Vallas had not voted in the Republican primary, and records that showed him as having done so were due to a "coding error."[78]

Lightfoot and Garcia pointed to a 2009 interview in which Vallas declared himself to be "more of a Republican than a Democrat because, fundamentally, I oppose abortion",[88] and stated that "if I were to run for office again, I would run as a Republican".

He's a real piece of work and all over the place politically.

I voted for him first time around. It will depend on who gets the lion's share of the Lightfoot and Garcia vote from the first election and how many of those people turn out for the runoff. I'd guess that almost anyone who voted for Lightfoot would support Johnson, so how many of those he can get to turn out will be a key to his winning. Many of those voters are white liberals. He should also pick up a significant number of Garcia voters, who would tend to be more Latino. Vallas has to find, from the constituencies of the other candidates, enough votes to break the 40% ceiling and I don't think there's enough for him to do it. Willie Wilson was the only other candidate on the ballot close enough to his position for him to pick up a majority.

Chicago is, if anything, further to the left than it was four years ago.
