Real Time with Bill Maher guests - Friday, March 10, 2023

Real Time with Bill Maher continues its 21st season Friday, March 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m. live ET/tape-delayed PT), with a replay at 11:35 p.m., exclusively on HBO.

This week features a one-on-one interview with David Byrne, musician, singer and songwriter who recently co-wrote and recorded the Oscar-nominated song This Is A Life for the film Everything Everywhere All At Once.

This week's in-studio panel discussion will include John McWhorter, author of the New York Times Newsletter and contributor to The Glenn Show podcast; and Josh Tyrangiel, journalist and the executive producer and Chief Operating Officer for Eden Productions and Kunhardt Films. He was previously chief content officer for Bloomberg Businessweek and executive producer of HBO's Vice News Tonight.

does much for me, although David Byrne could be interesting. And coming off last week's episode, the one where the off-putting Russell Brand took over, which was even more of a waste of time considering John Heilemann was the guest who was basically closed down because of him, I had hoped for better this week. McWhorter and Tryrangiel? Not so sure.

Oh well. On the plus, I was positive last week for Covid and now I'm negative, so at some level it's all good!

But just because I'm not familiar with them doesn't mean it won't e an interesting or a good show. And I agree about last week, I knew that John Heilemann would be a really good guest but because Russell Brand pretty much took over the panel discussion, it was tough for him to get a word in. At least on the Overtime, most of the questions were directed to Bernie Sanders. I hope that John Heilemann receives another invitation in the future with a fellow panelist who's less of a show off.

However, last week one of the replies on the thread made perfect sense. It said that Russell Brand committed an unforgivable faux pas, he upstaged the host! So I'm guessing he won't be invited back!

I'm not all that familiar with this week's guests, but I'm guessing that this week's panel will be less of a one-man-show.

And FYI, I've made it a point to add the Overtime segment when it's available the next day.

He is a linguist and is liberal, just a bit past the center line. I have read many of his books.

But I'm guessing that he'll give the other guy a chance to speak, unlike last week.

David Byrne was informative, especially on how the process of aging can, hopefully, rein in those with extremely focused personality types to grow and live more in the moment and appreciate those around them.

I now remember seeing Mr. McWhorter on prior episodes... his pairing with Mr. Tyrangiel was PERFECT! A wonderful back and forth.

I'm looking forward to visiting your 'Overtime' thread later! Thanks!

David Byrne is always smart and entertaining and Behind the Aegis reminded me of who John McWhorter is, he's been on before and is terrific. And I agree that Josh Tyrangiel made a great panel partnership.

As for Overtime, it'll be available sometime tomorrow so I'll add it to the thread. I don't know what the point is to air it on CNN for an audience that may not have watched the show, so we'll see if that lasts...
