It was a serious fall and there is no telling what really happened?
I think he had a medical problem at the time and like any other high profile politician? They are keeping it hush hush.
I hope McConnell recovers soon, but Rick Scott is standing outside and waiting to take over the as Minority Leader in the Senate!

(17,984 posts)Physical therapy even though he was released from the hospital. It was serious or they would not keep him for several days.
He also had a fractured rib.

(17,984 posts)Insurance is now paying, not only for Life Alerts, they als pay the monthly payment. One day I left mine in the bedroom, apparently hit the button. The Rescue Squad showed up. I had gone downstairs to do laundry and did not hear them contacting me. You can bet I never did that again.
I did not feel too bad as my Husband had spent 5 mornings a week driving that ambulance when it was volunteer.
You can even talk to a Social worker to set up transportation. They have been a life saver to many younger. They want to keep people in their homes if they can.

(17,984 posts)Yes, I was just reading a post about a 90 year old Mother but do hope more will see my message on those Life alerts. They are not just for 90 year olds.
I can relate. Mine was 84 but she would not listen to anyone. We never knew what was coming next.

(50,949 posts)I agree about the Life alerts. They are really lifesavers. My mom DID have one when she was alive and had to call it once or twice.

(17,984 posts)A week. The Y has really great instructors. The one whose class I attend is a Physical therapist, one of the best. Balance is one of her specialties. MA pays for the Y, too. Silver Smealers.

(22,112 posts)you fell onto something else beneath you when you fell. Anyone falling, like I've done (and it's of course not a 'planned fall'), you only can hope for the best, and that you receive no injury. I don't wish this on anyone. Too many people that I know have injured themselves from a 'simple fall'. In short, even a 'simple fall' can be deadly serious, e.g., you landed on your head, etc.

(51,308 posts)Unfortunately, I now have trauma-induced arthritis in that shoulder and will probably have to have it completely replaced, according to my orthopedist.
I no longer have full range of motion, which is irritating at best, and confining at worst. However, I continue to work out, and my doctor even said it was fine to use my treasured rowing machine.

(50,949 posts)there's a lot more than a concussion going on.
True Blue American
(17,984 posts)That could puncture a lung. A friend had that happen when he fell off his ladder painting. They had to use mesh.
So Mitch is not in good shape.
They were having a discussion on how many 80 year olds we have in Congress.

(10,167 posts)The last time he fell his whole right hands was black and blue, his lips, chin, and the tip of his nose.
That bruising scares people, so that might be why he's keeping a low profile for a week or two.

(10,828 posts)McConnell hasn't looked well for quite some time. I mentioned on another thread--we all remember when the man's hands and lips were blue last year. He looked dreadful and I thought he was failing. Then, remarkably, he bounced back.
If the initial statements about a concussion were accurate, he might be genuinely incapacitated. Even mild concussions can have serious implications depending on the patient's existing health condition. For instance if McConnell was on blood thinners, that fact alone could increase his chances of real problems with a smack to the head.
I'm certainly not a McConnell fan but the thought of Rick Scott as Minority Leader is chilling.

(6,829 posts)In fact I hope they both come back to the Senate on the same day. It would emphasize that depression is a medical condition requiring hospitalization the same as a concussion/broken bone for a senior citizen and should be viewed similarly.
In fact, #MoscowMitch could go a long way towards de-stigmatizing mental illness by literally embracing Fetterman when he gets back.
Emile
(22,668 posts)Takes awhile to get over that.

(17,984 posts)Mitch will not be back for 2 or 3 weeks. You know Diane wont. Then Fetterman.
