(51,308 posts)Why would anyone live in that place?
Usually here they're talking about the south lol...as the west coast slowly collapses into the sea.

(58,785 posts)you may remember that after Hurricane Irma hit north Georgia there were road closures everywhere here too, from flooding and debris flows, mountainside collapses, downed trees by the many thousands. Definitely a whole-region HOLY CRAP! event.

(51,308 posts)I've been through hurricanes and all kinds of crap in the south.
I just was commenting that no one ever slams those who live in CA, but anyone who lives in the south, on a barrier island, GA, NC, Florida, etc is always judged.
But somehow, CA, the state of mudslides, earthquakes, wildfires, torrential rains, atmospheric rivers....is never on the DU list of "you should not live there."
You do not have to tell me how bad it can get in a storm. Nope. been there
Sorry, I just find it funny.

(58,785 posts)associated these days especially with the south -- and we have THAT one too!
Agree, funny, but you're so right. When we lived in California, most criticism was of the supposed horrors we strangely chose to subject ourselves to, earthquakes, real estate prices, "soulless" Los Angeles (even though a world-class city), but not free-flowing bigotry against Californians themselves.

(65,001 posts)My first business trip ever was a nearly 8 week adventure starting up a new hydrogenation reactor design in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
It was a cold winter, even for them. The highest daytime temperature we experienced was -27°C, or 15 below Fahrenheit. There were nights (and by night, I mean 6pm) where is was -45 to -50 below, in Fahrenheit. (At those temps, they're close to the same).
We'd get to the sight at 7:15 in the morning and the sun wouldn't come up for 2 hours. Then pitch dark at 5pm
Everybody had block hearers & parking lots all had plug in stations.
More than once, I asked myself "Why do people live here?" Difference is, I guess, I still wonder that.
We get cold in the winter in Chicago, but that was ridiculous!

(21,593 posts)I just checked and the road I was going to take is closed. I think I will wait for awhile before leaving. Its very windy and rainy here.

(1,273 posts)It was closed. I zoom out and I see the same closed road graphic all over the state.
North coast, South coast, foothills, mountains, valley, Bay Area, LA...
Used to live there, have family and friends there, glad I'm in the Land of Enchantment right now.
