Oklahoma Republican praises 'the rod' in rejecting bill to ban corporal punishment of disabled kids - RawStory

Republicans in Oklahoma this week rejected a piece of legislation that would have barred using corporal punishment on disabled children, with one GOP lawmaker saying that using physical violence against kids with disabilities was part of God's plan.

When I was in elementary school, the third grade teacher meted out the corporal punishments for the entire school. In front of the class. It was a bit medieval.

One day, somebody figured out that he enjoyed hurting children and he was gone. Poof!

A nice young Woman teacher replaced him. There was no more corporal punishment after that.

The rod is used to gently prod them in the direction you want them to go. If you beat a sheep, it will either simply drop dead, hurl itself off the nearest cliff, or bang it's head against a wall until it dies.
When a sheep does wander off or get lost, it is placen squarely in the middle of the herd.

This Bible verse has been misinterpreted because people are ignorant about how shepherds treat their sheep. Think about the misery this ignorance has caused so many.

Proverbs 26:4-5 – "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes."

What would it take for you to stop saying such stupid shit, Rep. Olsen? Shall we try corporate punishment on you? I'll bet the line of folks willing to dole that out to you and your ilk would stretch around the block a few times.

recommends spanking beginning with infants. You start with a pencil on the child's thigh. Rods grow in size with the child. But the "rule of thumb" is used for wives. They also suggest spanking be done in front of others within the church. The last time I was spanked in church was 1976, I was 16. With every blow, the crowd said amen.
There are approximately 6K IFB churches in America.

(easily fits in a ...diaper bag).

======================================
'Spare the rod, spoil the child.' A rod was a stick used by shepherds to guide their sheep to go in the desired direction. Shepherds did not use it to beat their sheep. The proper translation of the saying is 'Give your child guidance, or they will go astray.' It does not mean 'Beat the hell out of your child or he will become rotten' as many seem to believe.

Now, we all know the disciples followed Jesus because if they didn't, he'd beat the snot out of them.

Who beat kids are psychopaths.
Discipline and the bible is thier excuse to do what gets them off. Harm kids.

When will we as a society reject christianity's ugliness that is within it's book and question why its accepted as a part of a faith that supposedly is about a loving god?

I am atheist and for good reasons and this is one of many reasons I myself,
reject christianity in all its forms.

Another reason is why I have been in therapy for decades, trauma caused by believers in that religion.

Christianity can be interpreted to rationalize racism abuse etc. Its based in how you interpret what the bible is saying along with what kind of person you are.

You know that an evil tree bears evil fruit kinda thing It can be applied to any belief and faith as well. This is why I will never believe in anything ever.

Christianity has a horrible history regarding human rights.

all it did was teach me contempt and to develop a high pain threshold. It was common where I was raised, and kids would get beaten with straps and brag about how they never showed any reaction to the pain - it was a point of honor to never flinch, to walk away with your back straight and contempt in your eyes.

It's a punishment that doesn't work - it's easier than actually having to teach the child so they learn and understand, and gives the sadists their jollies.
