Evangelicals were driven to support former President Donald Trump out of fear of their "demographic slide" and their impending loss of political and cultural relevance, argued Robert P. Jones for Religion News Service on Tuesday and several points of data suggest that their fear is justified.

Now we have a majority Catholic Supreme Court, which rules now based on their Catholic faith.
Ron DeSantis's eight grandparents are Italian Catholics.
And the Evangelicals abdicates their power and control to the Catholic Church.

They don't believe in god. They believe they ARE god. And they want to wield their power, dammit.

(1,797 posts)if I read it aright, they *do* think they're God because they have remade what is considered an infinite deity into their own image.
Atheists don't bother with all of that rubbish - they do good because it's the right thing to do, kind of like people of all sorts of beliefs who actually walk their talk.

(1,138 posts)You are absolutely correct. Everything that the evilgelicals care about is embodied in Trump and maga. Many corporate Republicans who had tried to co-habit in the same party with them since the 1980's also realized this.

(3,949 posts)The only reason the Christofascists became anti-abortion is because they realized that it was mostly white women getting them which means fewer white babies. At its core, the racists/Rethuglicans are afraid of being treated the way they have treated minorities when they finally become one. It's so gross. Just stop being a hateful jerkhole and we'll all get along.

Political relevance should neuter any tax exemption of any church in America. And yet?? Ignorance and hatred are a horrible, volatile mix.

(16,349 posts)...that they supported Trump because they felt called by God to do it.
That's a handy excuse for a lot of things. They can't prove it happened, but nobody can prove that didn't happen, either. And besides, it just sounds so nice, you know? "I felt that that God was calling me to [fill in the blank]."
"I didn't do it because I was feeling angry or vengeful or wanted to hurt anyone. God was calling me to do it. How could I possibly say no to Him?" 😇

(14,854 posts)They believe Trump was handpicked by God to rule over the US, and that Democrats are agents of Satan. Therefore, to oppose Trump is to oppose God. This has been preached in plenty of Christian churches.

(14,854 posts)Trump got about 80% of the Evangelical Christians' votes, in 2016 and in 2020.
For the record, it wasn't just the Evangelical Christians who put Trump in office in 2016. Trump got the majority of the Christians' votes overall - 58% of Protestants, 52% of Catholics, and 61% of Mormons. He could never have taken office without their support, and they should not be deprived of their fair share of the credit for his disastrous presidency.

(15,411 posts)I noticed when they first started saying whites would be a majority minority group by 2050. Whites realized that minorities have been treated horribly, especially by white people.
So, they knew, their lives were going to be shit in a few short years.
All the freakouts are a result of that. This is more evidence.
