(1,460 posts)TLDR: Delusion gives birth to delusion, gives birth to malevolence, which often gives rise to physical violence against others, and/or against one's self.
Catholics endorse Childhood Inculcation online and in literature as being is what "God" intends.
Daily "bible classes" are a part of all "christian schools" within our locale.
Inculcation is a way of life around my parts, and obviously around the world.
I and mine escaped fundamentalist nationalist christian families.
We are the only ones of either of our families that managed to make our way out.
The rest are still deeply embroiled within the delusional maelstrom.
As children we were depersonalized through an ongoing message of "less of self and more of thee" to the point that we were none of self and all of thee." We were devoid of our own selves.
No longer were merely ashamed of what me considered as "sins", instead concluding that "I was a shame." We were taught that we were literally "lower than a worm" and that we ought to suffer everyday to demonstrate our devotion to this "holy god". We were true believers that trusted in the undying love of the hardcore believers, the unshakable faith in the fools and the dreamers.
As a young man I furthered my inculcation through auditing classes at a "school of biblical studies", a.k.a. a "preachers school".
As I got to know the individual participants during my time there, it turned out that the vast majority of participants had suffered through various forms of molestation from members of their families or from others within what we referred to as "The Church".
They all had a "holy" fascination with the "sins of the ages".
These were the individuals that were going out to "bring others to christ".
It's truly chilling understanding those societal implications, particularly as we see it playing out across our country, and around our world.
All of those things held true for my personal experience, as well as that of our families.
3 of the participants committed suicide out of a freshman class of about 40.
I was religiously suicidal and suicidally religious for 30 years.
Turned out, we never were god damned things, no one is.
That's the real good news.
Man's depravity is fully their own. We have no one else to blame.
Protecting society from further damage from this individual must needs be the primary consideration above all.
Today, doubt is our savior, and reason is our god.
May reason rule.

(1,138 posts)that because I was homosexual my Mother could go to hell for loving me, that at least she would have to disown me before she would be allowed into heaven. I certainly didn't feel that I could discuss that with my family. But I asked a priest who was a friend of our family about that and he was upset and told me that my Mother disowning me would never be a condition for her to go to heaven. That was the first time that I remember thinking that different religions had different views on sexuality.

(1,460 posts)As a child all the way into my teens, merely holding hands with a young girl of my age was considered taboo, as it might tempt one to travel further down the path of carnal physical engagement.

INCULCATION
I was never a part of the scene..
I was comin' apart at the seams.
My Jesus, all I could see...
Sure God, was dwellin' in meAlone with the truth, in bed as a child...
Wrestling desperately, flailing and wild.
Hoping against hope, that it could be true...
Jesus would love me, but what could I do?Hated myself with a passion.
Sure I'd burn after this for my actions.
Knew I just had to believe.
Took decades for me to break free.Alone with the truth, in bed as a child...
Wrestling desperately, flailing and wild.
Hoping against hope, that it could be true...
Jesus would love me, but what could I do?
A dreamin' and always a fearin'...
That Jesus would come back and set me on fire...
All the while Satan, wearing a smile.
At peace with the facts, just do what I can.
False hope is blinding, faith in a lie.
Take your time, look closer, just analyze.
My experience is that of being "beat to hell", then "lifted out", odd to say, both times by doubt.
When I rejected doubt, it beat me to hell, when I embraced doubt, it lifted me out.
Which is why I say, doubt is my "savior", reason is my "god".
May reason rule.

(1,460 posts)When I wrote them, I intended to sing each as a song.
To date, I've only been able to express them in written form.
Even typing them today brought up sobs within myself.
Perchance, one day soon, it may be I will sing them.
I've managed it with almost all the rest that I've written, time just takes time.
As I acknowledged the damage that was done, I've been able to align my head, heart and gut, and just be me.
Today I focus on living in my moments, embracing what I love within them, and leaving the rest.
Healing for me comes from owning my past, living in my moments, and planning for the future.
So in the parlance of "us 'round here..."
Laissez bon temps rouler! Seize the moment y'all and may reason rule!

(20,174 posts)The threat of hell is to convince the followers to believe that Jesus died for their sins. Remember, God didn't give the 10 Commandments to Christians. He gave them to Moses, a Jew.
Our prisons are full of believers, mostly Christian. Read up on family annihilator John List. He was a deeply religious man and the shame of losing his job, and the fact he didn't think his family was pious ENOUGH, drove him to murder his mother, wife and three children. But he didn't kill himself because that sin would be unforgivable. So he left a letter to his pastor about why he had killed them and went undercover for DECADES. When they finally caught him and sent him to prison, he said he had no regrets because he knew he would see his family in heaven.

They feel safe to do what they want. In the Pastors case he was soliciting online. The board was friends I had known for a long time. I used to be the Secretary. They must not have checked at all. Ended my Church days for a long time.. I go occasionally to see friends, but totally different Church. One like mine is hard to find.
