PHILADELPHIA: Gym, Rhynhart Pick Up Philly Mayoral Endorsements

Just another Wednesday in the Philadelphia mayoral race, as two Democratic candidates for the position to be vacated by Jim Kenney announced endorsements.

Helen Gym received the backing of Make the Road Action in Pennsylvania, the state’s largest Latino organizing group representing more than 10,000 members.

“I’m thrilled to have the support of Make The Road PA, a powerful force for immigrant justice in our city” tweeted Gym. “As Mayor, I’ll do everything in my power to make this a safe and thriving place for working families, young people, and immigrant communities to call home.”

Former city Controller Rebecca Rhynhart earned the backing of former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on Wednesday.

“My journey as a public official started with Mayor Nutter,” said Rhynhart. “Now, I’m honored to have his endorsement. I’m the only candidate who has navigated and led in city government. I’ve had 1,000 city employees report up to me, as Controller I led an office with a mostly unionized workforce. I know the inner workings of our city and I know how to manage and lead. It’s time for real change – to make our city cleaner and safer, now. And I’m the only one ready on day one to do just that.”

Rhynhart had previously secured the endorsement of another former Philly Mayor – John Street.
