Per a Justice Dept Jan 6 sentencing memo in case of Larry Brock of Texas. His sentencing hearing begins at 11am
HOLY SHIT!!!
1.
"Seize all democratic politicians and Biden key staff and select Republicans (Thune and McConnell)> Begin interrogations using measures we used on Al Queda to gain evidence on the coup"
.........
5.
Let the Democratic cities burn. Cut off power and food to all who oppose us.

(47,547 posts)Then again, a still picture of an active scene doesnt really tell you whats actually happening.
In fact, I make that sign all day without thinking about it. My SIL alerted me to it last time I was complaining about these white power fuckheads and their gang signs. Whats actually happening is Im a guitar player and thats how I hold my pick hand. But its also how I hold my pick hand when Im playing air guitar. Like when Im sitting on the couch listening to a song, or even just thinking about a song. Or (and this was the one that gave me pause) walking down the street listening to music, or sitting on the bus listening to music, or anywhere else in public listening to music. My right hand does that all day. I also have a white buzzcut and I always dress in black t-shirts and blue jeans with black boots. And I mean always. People could be taking pictures of me any time and itd show that Im making that sign all day all over town. But Im not.
Now, Ill bet this guy makes that sign all the time and for the reasons we think he does. But its hard to tell from that picture if hes doing it right there. What he IS doing right there is hes trying to overthrow the government, gang sign or not.

(1,809 posts)Our chickens have come home to roost. The numbers prove that a fair percentage of veterans are involved here on 1/6. Fed on war and more war its hard to fault them. We let them do unspeakable things in Iraq and Afghanistan. We should not be surprised.

As a 35 year veteran, 3 combat tours, I find your statement odious, not once did I ever consider trying to overthrow our duly elected govt., and neither did the vast majority of vets, combat vets, retired or active military members, so please consider removing your ridiculous statement.

(9,475 posts)And I would say about half of the people that were in the military I know are full-throated MAGATS. A few more are just Conservatives that at least speak lip service to things like justice and Democracy.
So "a fair percentage" seems accurate in my experience. TFG seemed confident that if he just had the right people in charge at the top, the NCO's and enlistments would follow him.
MarineCombatEngineer
(12,350 posts)TheRealNorth
(9,475 posts)Let's say on Jan 6th, TFG declared martial law and replaced anyone at the top of the armed forces that refused to send the armed forces into Washington DC and other cities where there was resistance to his attempted coup.
What percentage of the people in the armed forces that you know would go along and what percentage would resist?
I mean, technically, if you refused to follow those orders coming from TFG, you would be guilty in insubordination at the very least.

(1,809 posts)Im the peacenik and all but one of those who were enlisted think I am nothing because of it. That being said as they served I worked my butt off when their benefits were cut and plans of invasion were being thrown about as if lives involved would not be forever changed even if they were lucky and lived. I flew the flag every day one of them was in harms way. I sent packages to those stationed out of country. During the Iraq war my neighbor and I had a memorial to those Americans who lost their lives there. It wasnt the total dead but the official number of dead on the ground. After almost five years and 5400 marker flags planted we decided that for the sake of sanity we could not do it any more. Our peace line friends helped by pulling the flags so that we could mow and then the markers were replaced over and over again. A professor from our local state university brought his class by once a quarter to show the students this memorial. They always left a note of thanks in the door.
Last year my last remaining family active service contact replied to my message with the words
I dont know why you would think that Hope YOUR COUNTRY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. My heart is broken but I always make the calls, write the emails and engage those in power with the safety and well being of all who serve, have served and will serve in mind. My heart goes out to those who have suffered from the service they gave. My heart is shattered by those who have been lost and those who still suffer from the painful and dangerous exposure their service caused them. War never ends and my being questioned by those who have served will never be answered
to their satisfaction.

(1,925 posts)That doesn't take away from the point there there is a sizable amount of Trump supporters who are ex-military including this person in the story. As an ex-military I agree with the posters point about fantasizing war, the machinery, the death..... It happens every damn time we go to war on the screens. War should be abhorrent. For some reason we glorify it as a nation That is a fact. And it has nothing to do with your service.
And also this is a personally opinion, but I really cannot stand the "I have X years of service.....blah blah blah". Good for you. But everyone else has a lifetime of having to pay for it and has to deal with the effects of our war hungry nation.

We had vets from WWII, Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War.
They werent pacifists they just didnt want Uncle Sam fighting stupid wars. I am a lifelong female civilian, and I agreed wholeheartedly. Bush another politician with Daddy issues, paired with Darth Cheney started a stupid, stupid, stupid war.
While I have been shocked at the number of veterans and active duty personnel arrested for participating in the 1/6 coup attempt, that says nothing about the integrity of your service or that of my friends from 20 years ago. So thank you for your service.

(1,809 posts)We are being eaten from within, collapsing upon ourselves. Our militarization of police and generations of war are a fact of our lives. The same people you think might be offended by my comment are in fact victims of the system. 1000 more potential indictments for 1/6 participants are expected. Lets see how it plays out. Im not sure why so many vets and law enforcement officers were involved on 1/6 but some day maybe we will understand. Maybe they can explain it. Right now Flynn and friends are doing everyone a disservice.
My thread above explains as clearly as I can my respect and care for American troops. Those serving today, yesterday and tomorrow.
MarineCombatEngineer
(12,350 posts)That's funny, I don't feel victimized by the system, matter of fact, I'm grateful for the system allowing me to serve and receive the benefits of the system.

(47,368 posts)People have an unfortunate tendency to put all of a certain group or demographic in the same pigeonhole, which is really sad. People are individuals and should be judged first and foremost for who and what they are.
Larry Brock is an arrogant and violent man and though he might try to apply his military training to his misadventures and crimes, I'm quite sure he was an arrogant and violent man before he joined the military. My father and my brother were in the Army and it never dawned on either of them to participate in a coup. I imagine it would be hard to find anyone here who hasn't had family members who served in the military.
