3. If there are indictments next week it will still be a *very* long time

before we are talking about jail time. An indictment is just a probable cause finding. There will be many proceedings, motions, negotiations, possible appeals of preliminary procedures, a trial (maybe) which is likely to take weeks - the jury selection alone will be a very long process. If there is a conviction there are certain to be post-trial motions and appeals. Nobody will be talking about jail time, if at all, for many months.

he will spend the rest of his life having to fight off criminal charges and defend many, many civil cases. He will have to attend hearings and depositions and appear in court over and over again and pay lawyers thousands, even millions. He will never be able to relax again. He will be in a constant state of rage, and the stress will not be good for his health.

It will be historic if he is indicted and if there are other charges that could easily change everything.

"In New York, falsifying business records can amount to a crime, albeit a misdemeanor. To elevate the crime to a felony charge, Mr. Bragg’s prosecutors must show that Mr. Trump’s “intent to defraud” included an intent to commit or conceal a second crime.

In this case, that second crime could be a violation of New York State election law. While hush money is not inherently illegal, the prosecutors could argue that the $130,000 payout effectively became an improper donation to Mr. Trump’s campaign, under the theory that it benefited his candidacy because it silenced Ms. Daniels.

Will it be a tough case to prove?
Even if Mr. Trump is indicted, convicting him or sending him to prison will be challenging. For one thing, Mr. Trump’s lawyers are sure to attack Mr. Cohen’s credibility by citing his criminal record.

The case against the former president also likely hinges on an untested and therefore risky legal theory involving a complex interplay of laws."
