NYT: A Forty Year Secret-One Man's Story of Sabotaging Carter's Re Election

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/18/us/politics/jimmy-carter-october-surprise-iran-hostages.html

Story according to Ben Barnes. Asked by John Connally, Jr (yes the same one who was shot in Dallas with President Kennedy and later switched party) to go to Iran to broker a deal wth Ronnie Rayguns to keep the American hostages until after the election, he now tells his story since President Carter is now in hospice. No hard evidence, but others say he has confided in them over the years.

We have always suspected this. Now one step closer to the truth.

It was found in intel notes and documentation compiled by USSR spies.

About time someone admitted it publicly.

I seem to remember that he did that at a meeting with North Vietnamese reps in Paris.
Does anyone else remember that?

Thanks, so much, for the story, deminks. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sure looks as if someone's conscience has gotten the best of him. Too bad it took so long, right?

Sure, it's more than 40 years ago, but this is like the story about the second Bush's domestic spying that you sat on throughout the 2004 election. What will you do if Republicans blame this story for their underperformance in next year's election? So much better if the voting public is kept in the dark about Republican misdeeds.

but I thought this was common knowledge about what happened to the hostages. It was clear as day when Reagan took office and they were released.
