…that Carter still beat Ford in 1976.

Yet, Nixon skated. Again.

Nixon in the Jungle

by Jim Hougan

Excerpt…

The story surfaced, briefly, some 20 years later, when the New York Times reported that Nixon, "while on a private trip to Vietnam in 1964, met secretly with the Vietcong and ransomed five American prisoners of war for bars of gold. : . ." [5] In reporting this, the Times relied upon a report published in the catalog of a Massachusetts autograph dealer. The dealer was selling a handwritten note that Nixon had given to one of his bodyguards. The note read, “To Hollis Kimmons with appreciation for his protection for my helicopter ride in Vietnam, from Richard Nixon."

The value of the note was increased by the circumstances that generated it, circumstances that Sergeant Kimmons described in the catalog:

When Nixon arrived at Ton Son Nhut Airport in Saigon, Sergeant Kimmons was assigned to security detail and was accompanying Nixon on all excursions away from the 145th Aviation Battalion where Nixon was staying. On the second day, Nixon dressed in Army fatigues with no identification and climbed aboard a helicopter with Sergeant Kimmons and a crew of four. [6]

They proceeded to Phuoc Binh, a village northwest of Saigon, where they met with Father Wa, a go-between that arranged the exchange of the gold for U. S. prisoners. The following day, Nixon and his party departed for An Loc, a village south of Phuoc Binh, where in a clearing somewhere in this area Nixon met with a Vietcong lieutenant who established a price for the return of five U.S. prisoners.

A location for the exchange was arranged and the crew departed for Saigon. Later the same day, the crew, this time without Nixon because of the extreme danger, departed for Phumi Kriek, a village across the border in Cambodia. A box loaded with gold bars so heavy it took three men to lift it on the helicopter accompanied the crew.

At the exchange point, five U.S. servicemen were rustled out of the jungle accompanied by several armed soldiers. The box of gold was unloaded and checked by the Vietcong lieutenant and the exchange was made without incident. The crew and rescued prisoners immediately departed for Saigon, and they were sent to the hospital upon their arrival.

Sergeant Kimmons's mission was secret, and there were no written orders for his duty during this period. His clothes were destroyed as well as the film in his camera, and he signed an agreement not to reveal this incident for 20 years. Nixon's note to him was hurriedly written at the conclusion of his assignment to guard Nixon on the following day. [7]

That Nixon traveled to Vietnam in 1964 is a matter of fact. He departed the United States in late March on a round-the-world trip that took him, first, to Beirut, and then to Karachi, Calcutta, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Saigon. There, he dined with the American Ambassador, Henry Cabot Lodge, who had been his running mate in the 1960 Presidential race. In the days that followed, Nixon helicoptered into the countryside, [8] and then continued on to Hong Kong, Manila, Taiwan, and Tokyo before returning home. [9] Nixon later wrote that the purpose of the trip was to meet with Mudge, Rose clients and foreign leaders. Contemporary reports make it obvious, however, that the real purpose of the trip was to drum up international support for what was about to become America's massive intervention in Vietnam. [10]

There is nothing in the Times' account to suggest that the exchange of gold on April 3 was in any way relevant to the impending escalation of the war, but the possibility is an intriguing one. The Times' article is anything but conclusive. On the contrary, it simply parrots the cover story that Sergeant Kimmons had been given, while at the same time neglecting to identify the mission's middleman, the so-called “Father Wa.”

Enlightened people think for themselves, care about others and the nation, and know right from wrong. Hence our dilapidated public education system and corrupt news media.

One area important to know are the crimes of the national security state — often private interests expressing power through elected and stolen office.

E Howard Hunt planted phony cables implicating JFK in Diem murder in White House safe.

Charles Colson, Nixon White House special counsel, ordered E Howard "Disinformationist Extraordinaire" Hunt to smear the name of President Kennedy.

From the Watergate hearings:

Senator Talmadge Now, you related yesterday about the fabrication of cables from this country to Saigon, relating to the Diem government. Could you state who directed you to go to the State Department and look at those cables?

Mr. Hunt It was my suggestion initially. I was authorized to do so by the State Department itself at the request of Mr. David Young.
...

Senator Talmadge Now, you got there and you found that you thought some of those cables needed a little beefing up to implicate the Kennedy administration ; is that what you recited?

Mr. Hunt In effect, Senator, yes.

Senator Talmadge Now, what did you finally do? You got there and you fabricated some cables; what was the nature of the fabricated cables and what did they say?
...

Mr. Hunt As I recall it, one, the text of one cable which I fabricated was a query or inquiry from the Saigon Embassy, which Ambassador Lodge then headed, postulating a course of action such as granting political asylum to Diem and to his brother-in-law in the event that they should seek asylum, and the second cable that I fabricated was an alleged response from the White House to that inquiry.

Senator Talmadge What was the reason?

Mr. Hunt It was a negative response.

Senator Talmadge In other words, it was alleged to be President Kennedy speaking for this Government that political asylum would not be granted; is that it?

Mr. Hunt Yes. sir.

Senator Talmadge Now were there other cables fabricated?

Mr. Hunt No, sir.

Senator Talmadge How did that relate to the implication of President Kennedy and the assassination of President Diem?

Mr. Hunt The mere witholding of asylum would have resulted in the deaths of the two men who sought it, should they have sought it.

Senator Talmadge In other words, this was the only way out of the assassination, as you saw it?

Mr. Hunt Yes, sir.

Senator Talmadge And the object of that fabrication was to alienate the Catholic vote in the Presidential election of 1972?

Mr. Hunt That would have been part of the thrust of the cable; yes, sir.

Senator Talmadge Who worked with you and directed your efforts in that fabrication?

Mr. Hunt I was directed solely by Mr. Charles Colson. No one worked with me.

Senator Talmadge Mr. Colson authorized, directed it and condoned it, is that your testimony?

Mr. Hunt Yes, sir.

Senator Talmadge And also sought to get wide dissemination in the press relating to those fabricated cables, is that correct?

Mr. Hunt Through Mr. William Lambert of Life magazine.

Senator Talmadge Now you put those cables, I believe, the fabricated cables in your safe at the White House?

Mr. Hunt Yes, sir.

Senator Talmadge And left them there and those cables were ultimately turned over to Mr. Dean and others in the White House to Mr. Gordon Gray who ultimately burned them at his country residence, is that correct?

Mr. Hunt So it has been alleged, yes, sir.

Senator Ervin That is Patrick Gray.

Senator Talmadge Patrick Gray, I stand corrected.

Senator Ervin My fellow North Carolinian.

===========================================================================

Mr. Dash. What was Mr. Colson's reaction to your statement and the showing of the cables to him? Did he agree that the cables were sufficient evidence to show any relationship between the Kennedy administration and the assassination of Diem?

Mr. Hunt. He did.

Mr. Dash. Did he ask you to do anything?

Mr. Hunt. He suggested that I might be able to improve upon the record. To create, fabricate cables that could substitute for the missing chronological cables.

Mr. Dash Did you in fact fabricate cables for the purpose of indicating the relationship of the Kennedy administration to the assassination of Diem?

Mr. Hunt. I did.

Mr. Dash. What was his response to the fabricated cables?

Mr. Hunt. He indicated to me that he would probably be getting in touch with a member of the press, to whom he would show the cables.

Mr. Dash. And were you, in fact, put in touch with a member of the media?

Mr. Hunt. I was.

Mr. Dash. Who was that?

Mr. Hunt. Mr. William Lambert of Life magazine.

On being asked whether Mr. Lambert had used the information in any way, Hunt replied "not to my knowledge." Hunt later showed the fake cables to Colonel Conein prior to Conein's appearance on an NBC-TV special on Vietnam:

Mr. Dash. And did Colonal Conein use any of this information from the fabricated cables in his program?

Mr. Hunt. I would have to answer in these terms, Mr. Dash, that I had shown him the fabricated cables in the context of the overall cables, that he was then interrogated by a camera and interview crew and that I believe he made, if not specific reference to the cables I showed him, at least they reinforced his own belief that there had been direct complicity by the Kennedy administration in the events leading up to the assassination of the South Vietnamese Premier.

3. A Four-Decade Secret: One Man's Story of Sabotaging Carter's Re-election

Iran and the Reagan campaign conspired to cheat win the 1980 election. The hostages held by Iran was a major issue in that election and the failed attempt by President Carter to negotiate a release or rescue of these hostages was a major deal. Reagan promised the Iranian clergy to not make a deal with President Carter and that Reagan would give the Iranians a better deal. This is the same treasonous act that Nixon did in the 1968 with the Vietcong

It has been more than four decades, but Ben Barnes said he remembers it vividly. His longtime political mentor invited him on a mission to the Middle East. What Mr. Barnes said he did not realize until later was the real purpose of the mission: to sabotage the re-election campaign of the president of the United States.

It was 1980 and Jimmy Carter was in the White House, bedeviled by a hostage crisis in Iran that had paralyzed his presidency and hampered his effort to win a second term. Mr. Carter’s best chance for victory was to free the 52 Americans held captive before Election Day. That was something that Mr. Barnes said his mentor was determined to prevent.

His mentor was John B. Connally Jr., a titan of American politics and former Texas governor who had served three presidents and just lost his own bid for the White House. A former Democrat, Mr. Connally had sought the Republican nomination in 1980 only to be swamped by former Gov. Ronald Reagan of California. Now Mr. Connally resolved to help Mr. Reagan beat Mr. Carter and in the process, Mr. Barnes said, make his own case for becoming secretary of state or defense in a new administration.

What happened next Mr. Barnes has largely kept secret for nearly 43 years. Mr. Connally, he said, took him to one Middle Eastern capital after another that summer, meeting with a host of regional leaders to deliver a blunt message to be passed to Iran: Don’t release the hostages before the election. Mr. Reagan will win and give you a better deal.....

News of Mr. Barnes’s account came as validation to some of Mr. Carter’s remaining advisers. Gerald Rafshoon, who was his White House communications director, said any interference may have changed history. “If we had gotten the hostages home, we’d have won, I really believe that,” he said. “It’s pretty damn outrageous.”

Barnes “lobbied” Texas Gov. George w Bush, whom Barnes previously helped get into the Texas Air National Guard to avoid Vietnam.

Reagan’s Treason: October Surprise and the $23 Million Payoff

Excerpt…

In Austin, Texas, I received unshakeable evidence that Barnes was the fixer who got Congressman Bush’s son out of the Vietnam draft. (This, while Bush Sr. was voting to send other men’s sons to Vietnam.)

What did Barnes get for his burial of Reagan’s deal with Iran and Bush Jr.’s draft dodging?

In 1999, I was investigating a company, GTech, which ran both the British and Texas lotteries. Texas had disqualified GTech from operating the state lottery based on strong evidence of corruption. But oddly, the new Governor of Texas, George W. Bush, fired the lottery director who banned GTEch. Then Bush’s new lottery commissioner gave GTech back its multi-billion-dollar contract, no bidding.

Notably, Bush’s firing of the state’s lottery director came two days after a meeting with GTech’s lobbyist—Ben Barnes.

Barnes’ fees from GTech? $23 million.

7. A short history of everyone who confirmed October Surprise in NYT
Sun Mar 26, 2023, 09:11 AM
Mar 2023
And yet, for some reason even in their own reportage, The New York Times doesn’t like to mention it.

A SHORT HISTORY OF EVERYONE WHO CONFIRMED REAGAN’S OCTOBER SURPRISE BEFORE THE NEW YORK TIMES

A lot of people beyond Ben Barnes have said that Reagan’s 1980 election campaign conspired to keep American hostages in Iran.

by Jon Schwarz
The Intercept, March 24 2023

ON SATURDAY, THE New York Times published a blockbuster story that said two prominent Texas Republicans flew across the Mideast in the summer of 1980 for secret meetings with regional leaders to urge them to tell Iran to keep the U.S. hostages in Tehran until after the election that pitted GOP candidate Ronald Reagan against then-President Jimmy Carter.

The Times reported that Ben Barnes, a key figure in Texas politics, said he made the trip with former Texas Gov. John Connally, a major supporter of Reagan’s campaign, and that when they returned home, Connally met in an airport lounge with William Casey, who’d been a top U.S. spy during World War II and was then Reagan’s campaign manager. Connally and Casey discussed the trip, according to Barnes, who The Times quoted as saying, “History needs to know that this happened.” After Reagan beat Carter in a landslide, Reagan appointed Casey head of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Snip…

This memo from Beach and the mysterious cable from the Madrid embassy were somehow never turned over to the House investigation. Lee Hamilton, an Indiana Democrat who’d led the inquiry, wrote a letter to then-Secretary of State John Kerry in 2016 asking for the cable. He did not receive it. For Kai Bird’s book “The Outlier,” which includes a chapter of additional evidence about an October Surprise, Bird submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for the cable. The State Department likewise has not produced it for Bird — even after he filed a lawsuit in 2019 — informing him that they can’t find it.

At this point, even James Baker, first Reagan’s chief of staff and later his treasury secretary (and then Bush’s secretary of state), won’t say Casey wasn’t in Madrid. Asked about it by one-time Carter staffer Stuart Eizenstat, he responded: “Would I be surprised if Casey did it? There is nothing about Casey that would surprise me. He is a piece of work.”
