A HERETIC I AM

I worked in a slaughterhouse when I was 15.(A bit of a graphic story, but relevant to recent events)

My dad worked for the government and he was stationed in Alice Springs, NT Aus in the early 70's.

I got a job at the town Abattoir the last summer we were there. One of the jobs they gave me was working the "Kill Box". Even though this was a small volume facility (50 head was a VERY busy day), I probably shot over 1000 head during my time there, as well as dispatching hogs and sheep.

We used a .22 Long Rifle cartridge. Put one round in the center of the curls of hair that are found on the forehead or behind the horns of every bovine on the planet and most of them will instantly drop like a sack of flour. The only time a single shot didn't do the trick was on the rare occasion we were sent a large, mature Bull. It was as if they had armor plating for skulls! Most of the cattle that came off the Stations in the Northern Territory back then were Shorthorn and Brahman.

The .22LR round would deform as it penetrated but it didn't have nearly the muzzle velocity of a .223 or similar round and as a result, would do relatively little damage. Enough to quickly and efficiently dispatch the animal.

I shot yearlings, steers, cows, calves, and pigs and never, NOT ONE SINGLE TIME, over the course of hundreds of kills, did a round exit the other side of the skull, or leave more than a pencil sized hole on entry, yet had no difficulty in dropping 1200 pound animals instantly. It also left the brain mostly intact.

On Saturday, DU'er pnwmom put up a thread in which she edited her OP to include a link to a post put up in her thread which contained a now deleted Twitter post which had video of a number of the victims, one clearly a child with brain matter on the ground next to him and a woman who appeared to have been shot in the face, as there was a hole where her right eye should have been large enough to put your fist into.

The arguments put forward by the staunch 2A types that defend the right to purchase a weapon specifically designed to kill human beings - that fires ammunition that can literally cause an organ like the liver or heart to disintegrate, serves absolutely ZERO purpose as a hunting or sporting weapon, are spurious at the minimum and absurd at the most.

Now I'm not a hunter. It just wasn't something that was the culture in my family. My dad was a Navy Medical Corpsman in WWII and a Marine Corps Field Medic in Korea. He was recruited by the CIA in the 50's because of his combat medical experience, was stationed all over the world during his time with The Company and as such, likely saw plenty of carnage and destruction of human bodies in his lifetime.

The only weapon he ever kept in the house was his Government issued Smith & Wesson .38 Service Revolver. I never saw him shoot it.

Not once.

After the situation in Ferguson, MO in 2014 brought us the picture below, I thought long and hard about buying a similar weapon to the one pictured, as I thought ...well, if the cops are going to be able to sit on top of armored cars with sniper rifles aimed at civilians, maybe I should be similarly armed.

After long contemplation, and even though I have no formal medical or EMT training, I bought one of these instead;

Fuck anyone who thinks weapons like the ones used at Sandy Hook, Uvalde, El Paso and Allen (and on and on and on) should be easier to buy than a 6-pack.

Just fuck them.

I have other First Aid kits in the house for the stuff that happens to us all: cuts and scrapes and all, but I know I need to be able to have at least a minimum of the skills needed to use what the Med bag I purchased contains.

It has enough to do minor surgery (scalpels, suture silks, etc.), except anesthetics, obviously.

I figured if a situation like what happened the other day occurs near my house, at least I would have enough stuff to stop the bleeding on a few people, if nothing else.

At the very least I'll hand it to the first EMT person I see and say "Use this stuff first".

As my career is in self defense and its related fields, I'm glad you're interested in training. Too many people think they can self teach or learn all they need to learn from YouTube videos. A student of mine last year took the time to enroll in a college EMT course. He graduated and is still taking more advanced medical courses, all without any desire to enter that field for work. I applaud people like you and him.

But my biggest problem with structured class schedules is my own work - I'm always working a VERY unpredictable schedule (often nights so I sleep days) and regularly fly to various parts of the country for 2 or 3 weeks at a time to cover new contracts or for vacationing employees.

Still, I shall pursue this.

Thanks for the compliment.

he talks about this stuff a lot. i usually only watch his shorts, but his ‘roads w beau’ channel has longer format and he has mentioned these kits and how to use them. pretty sure he mentioned training vids.

and his job was to kill the chickens to go to market.

Never, not once, did I as a child, ever eat chicken. It wasn't allowed.

Even when my father would attend his weekly kiwanis club meeting, where they typically served chicken dinners, they always had meatloaf or something else for my dad.

In my travels I have found myself as the first on scene for a number of situations where immediate medical attention was needed and I was it. I have a lot of medical knowledge from various sources and experience though not formal training beyond CPR and First Aid for many years as required by my work. Back in "the day" in California, a Class 1 license required that you become first responder should you happen upon an accident or are in one and can render aid. You could be charged with a crime for by passing an accident . I think that's changed no but when I had the license it was required.

I am aware of some medical training options you might consider as I have participated in some of them as an assistant. These are more in line for "street medic" conditions which is more in line with what you are considering. You've already got the gear!

The training courses are informative, interesting an brief, you might check these out...

Do No Harm Coalition: Street Medic training

https://www.donoharmcoalition.org/street-medic-training.html

They have links to other resources, too.

Then there's Chicago Action Medical"s STREET MEDIC HANDBOOK: Spreading Clam... (pdf-92 pages not sure how to link but a search will bring it up)

https://mutualaiddisasterrelief.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/kupdf.net_street-medic-handbook.pdf

And the folks I interacted with, not city medic but much of their training is back-country first responder but has a lot of useful info useful in street medic practice. Taught by a group of medical professionals like RNs.

https://aeriemedicine.com/course/wilderness-emt

I hope that gives you a starting point. The kind of training you want might be found in those or through those sites.

My friend! Since you have a limited time commitment profile for this, such trainings could be what you're looking for.

Thank you for encouraging the same in others. It's mind-boggling that they are now requiring children to learn these tecniques in school to help in case of another school shooting. Yes, information that will help them throughout life, but, what a pity these children have to think about a thing like this, or worse yet, experience it. Time will tell what damage this is doing to their psychies.

thanks for your infromation. an add on to that , when i was growing up in southern ca. in school we were taught all kinds of survival skills including first aid and eartquake surviaval skills, such as do not run out doors during the shaking as the front of the building may collapse on u to others . i lived with a evac kit at my bedroom door to grab at any time . but am not still able to grasp all of the shootings . my sis in the bay area has a earthquake survival pac in her station wagon.

13. CAT -- Combat Application Tourniquet
Mon May 8, 2023, 10:46 AM
May 2023

Amazon sells the Combat Application Tourniquet by singles, two-pack, carton of two dozen.

RHINO RESCUE Medical Tourniquets One-Handed, Emergency Hemorrhage First Aid Kit, Combat Outdoor Control Life Saving EMT Mil-Spec Tactical with Windlass 4pcs Black

These were developed by the US military. We did not have these in Vietnam; probably could have saved a lot of lives. You should be trained in the use of the CAT, but, it's easy to apply and you can be adequately trained by watching a YouTube video.

I know -- it sounds sick, sick, sick -- but -- buy a few of these. Practice with them. You can practice with the tourniquet, fold it up, and use it. It works on arms and legs only.

Check with your local Red Cross or fire department or EMS for their next CPR class . . . take it.

has been totally gutted by the NRA. You cannot own a hand grenade, a bazooka, or a shoulder fired ground to air or antitank missile. All are 'arms', and all can be 'kept and borne'.

If other clearly weapons of war are illegal, why not an AR-15?

Oh.. you might want to overthrow the Government???? Really? First, that makes you a traitor, and second who the f*** are you to make that decision??? You get one vote like the rest of us. BTW, the government has lots more stuff than mere AR-15's. Good luck if you try it.

Oh.. your vote might have been 'stolen'? Did you volunteer as a poll watcher? They are partisan, D & R, and they oversee all voting and counting operations.... You still didn't volunteer? Why?

(Personally, I would love to see an Amon Bundy stunt overflown by a four ship of F-15s... Low level.. subsonic to not kill everyone, and no weapons drop. Just very loud and very fast. No warning. Think that might put the AR-15 in perspective? )

You really wouldn't want them as poll watchers. And they wouldn't flinch at a flyover.

Yesterday, nd I don't know what it was about but 4 military fighter jets made a low pass over my home. I heard them coming and went outside. I am triggered by military aircraft already and can spot them by sound immediately, no matter what kind or from what era. So I went out to see wtf was going on and it was like the Blue Angels made a low pass above the hill here, full scream ahead.

I seemed to be the only person unsettled by it.

Doubt that any of the gun humpers would be intimidated at all.
