GOP debate audience boos Romneys Mexican heritage
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney may be in the lead in the Palmetto state, but that doesnt mean South Carolinians necessarily like him.
During a Fox News debate at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Monday, the Republican audience booed loudly after being told that Romneys father was born in Mexico.
In a report last week, NBC revealed that Romneys great grandfather, Miles Park Romney, had fled to Mexico with other Mormons to escape persecution for polygamy. Romneys father, George, was later born in the northern Mexico colony of Colonia Dublan.
At the age of five, George Romney returned to the United States illegally after the Mexican Revolution broke out.

(576 posts)Mitt Romney's great-grandfather fled to Mexico to practice polygamy (marriage laws). Then Mitt's family comes into the US illegally (immigration). Following his party's thinking, Mitt should return to Mexico since he is not legitimately permitted to stay. And, his family has a history of "abnormal" marriages.
Where is your birth certificate, Mitt? I think he is a marxist too. In his early 20's he lived in socialist France for a couple of years.

(12,008 posts)The reason is that it's not clear if Mitt's grandparents were qualified as citizens or not. If they weren't, George Romney was an illegal immigrant. If they were, he wasn't and could run for president, because he was a citizen because his parents were.

(466 posts)and it sounded to me like they were booing because it was mentioned by the questioner. So they were Romney defenders.
That said, the audience was disgustingly jingoistic.
