Republicans have betrayed this country. They continue to believe that somehow they will be able to control the fascist if he wins the next election. It is easier to believe that than to speak the truth.
January 6th was an attack upon our Capitol, an attempted coup to keep Donald Trump in power, and a planned conspiracy to stop the count of the electoral votes. It was a criminal act. It was not a patriotic act in any way. Nobody should be permitted to try and whitewash it or to minimize it. It was a despicable attack upon our democracy and it is a lie to try and define it as anything else.
Perhaps Democrats need to be more direct and confrontational about it?
There should be no ambiguity about what happened and who was involved and who inspired it and which Party continues to defend it.
It should be clear to the American people that it was not a typical tourist day and it was not the same as any other march or demonstration ever in this country's history.
The Republican Party and all those that have tried to cover up this attack upon our Capitol should not be allowed to lie about it anymore.
There is no defense for what they did.

And when the J6 coup attempt footage is not running, run over and over how SCOTUS snatched away women's rights that have been on the books for five decades.

(111,079 posts)We need to call them liars and traitors to their faces when they try to defend the Big Lie and the attack upon our Capitol and when they say they want to "pardon" those criminals that attacked our democracy.

(33,310 posts)The problem is, no one can force Repukes not to lie, and they've got an entire media landscape they've built and control to spread their lies and muddy the waters. Lying is their brand.

(21,310 posts)the Big Lie was the rallying cry for the attack on our Capitol.
Hey Kentuck, remember a bogus, pro-Trump group called the Cyber Ninjas who were given access to sealed ballots, voter information, election material and equipment all in violation of federal law, Title 52 which states that those ballots were to have remained in the possession of election officials for 22 months. Remember?
What did our DOJ do? Remember? It wrote a stern letter that the Cyber Ninjas violated.
2 citizens groups filed FOIA requests for the Ninjas to provide documents, a judge agreed with the citizens groups and fined the Ninjas 50k per day that it did not produce the documents. Remember? No money was ever paid, no documents were ever produced because the Cyber Ninjas was a bogus group with a mailbox for an office and the head of the Ninjas moved on to other states where he continued to spread the Big Lie. Remember?
When I posted this back when it happened I was criticized for attacking DOJ. Remember?

Kevin, the leader of the party of responsibility, ambiguously tells us all over and over again, Im not responsible.

(2,024 posts)candidates should leave out the fact that he was just found liable of sexual assault, he's been indicted and is awaiting trial in the Stormy Daniels hush money campaign violations situation, and that he is under investigation for violating the Espionage Act, along with multiple other investigations that will likely soon lead to his being indicted in those cases.
But, of course, every news story I've seen lately, except on MSNBC and Free Speech TV, leaves out those pesky details. Our local news station here in red-state Montana is especially guilty of leaving out this crucial information.
These omissions are normalizing Trump as a candidate and will make the backlash from the right even worse when he finally is indicted.

(111,079 posts)In my opinion, the weakness of the Democrats' responses will make the backlash from the right even worse and much more likely, if Trump is indicted.

Meanwhile, he needs to use it right now in regards to the Debt Ceiling and make it abundantly clear whose fault it will be should Congress fail to raise it.

(6,818 posts)The forces who favored the majority in those studies in corruption are the same that engendered Jan. 6, 2021. Their power and prestige have not diminished in the hearts of their core constituents. They are still active, perpetuating the lies that keep their followers slavishly hot behind their facade of patriotic glory. What utter lunacy.
Every citizen encounter in our polarized society has the potential for instant passionate anger. Neither side has ever experienced the personal devastation of war against their brothers in their own town. Their hatred has yet to be blooded. The forces are ready, and the lines are clearly drawn, the power of delusion faces the flagging patience and tolerance of obstinate fact. Backing away from telling the truth at this point is equivalent to a betrayal of one's own soul.
