The summer of 2016 wasn’t the first time Caroline attended Christian summer camp in Branson, Missouri but it is the one etched most deeply in her memory.

One night, Kanakuk Kamps counselors “packed every single camper, like 300 kids … in a mosh pit type of thing,” said Caroline, who was 13. “They throw all these bubbles on you. It’s a fun event.”

The fun ended when Caroline felt a male camper slide his hands into her athletic shorts.

“‘Excuse you!’ And I said some mean words,” she said. The next morning, Caroline said, three other girls tearfully told her they’d been assaulted by the same camper.

She said they reported it to their counselor, who arranged a meeting with camp director Keith Chancey. Caroline and one other girl gathered the courage to relay what happened.

Camp leaders rebuked the girls, not the boy, she said.

2. I was a teen in a psych unit

Found out a pedophile priest was there. Beat the living crap out of him because he was trying to hook up with a 12 year old on my unit during lunch and I witnessed it all unfold. I triggered bad & flipped out and he got hurt pretty bad I went into a rage. When they took me back to the unit I saw He wasn't moving.He got shipped offsite after that. I hope he is in prison or even better dead.

The youngest on the unit I was on was 12
very soon to be 13.I guess they put her on the teen unit with me because in like a week and a half was her birthday.

This awfulness unfolded in a hallway just outside the cafeteria. I saw him do it while I was in line for lunch, I could see it from the door window and the line was long and slow so I was standing there for a good while .The adults were waiting to go back to thier units.He was the only patient in priest garb.

Dated a girl who went through trauma at one of these churches when a camp counseler raped her when she was 13 (He was in his 20s). Her family and the pastor fored her to get in front of the church and confess her sins to the entire congregation who all shouted insults at her and called her a "whore". This went on for some time until she was sobbing and begging for their forgiveness. Of course they then made a big to do about the lord forgiving her and they welcomed her back into the good graces with open arms.

It absolutely almost destroyed her life as she became an addict later in life until a stint in prison got her clean.
