later in the summer may send high level winds to disrupt what could otherwise be hellacious Atlantic hurricane conditions due to extreme water temps.

Or, maybe it won't.

NYT had an article yesterday on emergency/survival supplies. Comments from readers all around the nation for differing emergencies were more interesting to me.

Last year I got a whole home/installed generator for home that should help. I have insulin in the fridge and need to have power. I have promised to store my next door neighbor's insulin if we have a power outage.

at home in whatever emergency comes along. Insulin, sustainable temperatures, water -- serious stuff.

Our first winter in GA, calamitous ice-storm power outages forced many thousands to evacuate whole subdivisions of beautiful homes to avoid freezing to death; they had everything but a backup heating source. Our son had rented a little mobile home for us that had gas for cooking, and we were cozy as a pair of bugs in a rug.

Never forgot that huge lesson in being ABLE to shelter at home, so when we built this one we didn't install a whole-house generator OR propane.

But we do have a cranky little generator that'll keep the fridge and TV running and an EPA-certified furnace to burn wood from the forest around us. Presuming the emergency isn't doing that for us.
