https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/good-fucking-riddance-to-chuck-fuckingTodd was the worst of the both-sides dipshits
yesterday, Todd announced that he would be stepping down as host of Meet the Press, where hed been stinking up the joint for the last nine years.
good riddance.
Chuck Todd never met a lie he didnt let go unchallenged.
At numerous points throughout the interview, Todd let Trump get away with blatant falsehoods and gaslighting. Todd also teed up a number of softball questions for the president.
Chuck Todd never met an issue he couldnt both-sides.
What's in those classified documents at President Biden's home and private office?
Chuck Todd never met a situation he couldnt find a way to make about himself.
Todds focus on the entertainment aspect of politics coverage is often in evidencefor example, in his own recent performance as moderator in the Democratic presidential debate. He managed to talk more than all but three of the candidates, even as he demanded that they keep their own answers brief.
but the worst thing the worst fucking thing about Todd is that not only did he never look out that window to see if it was raining, he insisted quite openly that it wasnt his job to look out that window.
...snip...
Chuck Todd didnt invent all of the ills that plague the media today, but as host of one of the longest-running Sunday shows, he was its most-visible malpractor.
Chuck Todds departure wont fix whats wrong with journalism, but its a good start.

Good riddance to Chuck indeed.

Todd was horrible, but now we are sweeping Ms. Welker's very similar patterns of "bothsiderism" behaviors (among others) aside? He even mentored her. She has a history. She has a pattern. Yet, she's going to be an improvement? We shall see.

(7,849 posts)If you expect to criticize her and for us to take your criticism seriously, you have to at least get her name right. It reminds me back when everyone used to claim "Hilary" -- yeah, with one L -- was the devil, yadda yadda yadda. They were able to uncover this incredible web of international global corruption and murder -- and yet they couldn't even spell her name correctly.
People may have their reservations about Welker, but at first glance she is a VAST improvement over Todd. She at least comes across as much more knowledgeable and interested than Todd, who gives such superficial and shallow insight that I have no clue how he ever rose to where he is today.
Will Welker end up falling into the """both sides""" trap that plagued Todd? I don't know. Possibly -- maybe probably -- if just for the simple fact that I think the Meet the Press folks know that if they have a moderator that challenges lying Republicans the way they should be challenged by a real journalist, they will stop coming on the show, and they won't have that. But we'll see...
If I had to guess at this early stage, I'm guessing we will be seeing a much more insightful, knowledgeable, and prepared version of Chuck Todd, which is certainly a step up from what we've had, but still not what one of the most storied news shows on TV should aim for. They should challenge their guests, especially if they are lying, and if they refuse to come on, so be it. If you think yourself to be a journalistic outfit, why amplify lies to begin with?

(866 posts)While she seems more intelligent than Chuck Tood, she still does "both siderism" in her reporting. i.e. Dems say this, Repubs say that -- with no fact checking or commentary. I believe she'll conduct interviews the same way --- though I hope not.
Its not just me that has noticed Welker doing the same thing

(82,849 posts)But yes, as a journalist, he was lacking that certain something that spurs other journalists to actually get the story rather than provide a platform for whatever dingbat his producers were able to contact. Homework? Knowing his subject's background? Locating it in the nexus of current events? That's hard werk!

(1,535 posts)Once again, journalists ARE SUPPOSED to be biased in favor of OBJECTIVE TRUTHS. They aren't supposed to pretend they have knowledge of nothing. Last week I heard an interview on NPR with a congressman from the White Nationalist Political Party deriding the debt limit deal and "the corruption" of the Biden administration. The woman interviewing just let the corruption allegation go with no question. It was sickening. It's not partisan BS when I say Republicans lie as a regular course. All professional journalists should know that and expect it. If they don't, they're in the wrong business.

(128,705 posts)And that is why he and many of the current garbage can full of gaslighting political hacks will never touch the depth and breadth of the concept of actually using "common sense" when reporting, seen in the past with those like Walter Cronkite and John Chancellor.
