(73,236 posts)They caved to a tour hardly anybody is watching.
A few weeks ago, the tour was playing the Honda Classic. Few major names were there. Coverage on Golf Channel & NBC.
LIV was playing in the US, with coverage on CW.
The Honda had an average daily viewership that 6x that LIV's aggregate for the week!
PGA should have just waited out the Saudis' desire to pour money into a sinkhole.

It's all they will be asked this week.

(73,236 posts)They offered Tiger a half-billion. Rory got offered a hundred million more than Koepka or Johnson. They said no.

(37,148 posts)Woods won The Masters back in 1997. I'd occasionally tune into a golf tournament if it was being played at Kapalua, Maui just for the scenery (that's my favorite part of the island -- I stay in Napili when I go & that's just south of Kapalua) and to see if I could catch a sighting of a whale, lol. Everything else is one big snooze.

just aren't into it, plus increasingly expensive land and maintenance costs, environmental issues.
We know two couples who bought homes in subdivisions whose golf courses have fairly recently been abandoned without their having any say in it by the companies that actually owned the golf courses themselves. After a messy, what-now period, they've been/being converted to common natural habitat with walking paths, ponds, wetland, etc.
People wanted to buy the homes but more and more not to pay for memberships in the golf courses and costs to maintain go up with fewer members to spread them around. Increasingly common. Our friends aren't unhappy, except one husband a bit, but he's resigned and okay with ditching the increasing annual fees. Writing on the wall.
I wouldn't be surprised if this had a measurable negative effect on the sport, increasing the trend.

(191,136 posts)You can put a lot of houses on that amount of land.
