Personally, I think any random janitor is worth more than Newt Gingrich in terms of adding value to society so Id like to leave the nine year olds out of it and just do a straight comparison between adults: adult janitor compared with adult conservative blowhard/grifter. Personally, I would bet my mortgage payment that Newt Gingrich would be physically and temperamentally unable to complete one full 8 hour day as a school janitor. But Newt Gingrich believes that janitors are overpaid and that children can replace adult janitors, so lets conduct one of those thought experiments that conservatives love so much, and see if any other adult workers can and should be replaced by children.http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/01/17/only-the-elites-insult-the-working-adults-who-pick-up-after-us/

Id like to point to a comment at Benens place from RossInDetroit:
I do janitorial work several times a week. Here are some things those 9 year olds would be doing:
Climbing tall ladders to change 8 long light bulbs.
Driving a lawn tractor to haul outdoor trash and plow snow.
Driving an automated floor scrubbing machine.
Working alone in a swimming pool enclosure.
Operating a 300 lb propane powered floor polisher.
Stripping waxed floors with caustic chemicals.
Painting.
More ladder work to change ceiling tiles.
Moving furniture.
Receiving and delivering book shipments, often over 1,000 lbs at a time.
Sure, anyone can dust a bookshelf or sweep a floor,
but if you get rid of the janitor all of that other stuff wont get done.

(6,161 posts)1. I worked as a janitor in a school for a summer, there is NO WAY Gingrich could do the physical labor
NO WAY!

(27,461 posts)2. imagine how soft Newt must be
and very important to mention temperamentally. Think of his reaction to having to use the back exit of the plane, and then think of the "indignities" of any service sector job like janitorial. No way Newt could hack it.

I think if the cameras were on him and he were proving a point he could tough it out for one day- especially if he knew going in that it was only for one day. As to whether he would actually agree to be a janitor for a day- well, that's a different question altogether.

Aren't there 250 lb. load limits on many stepladders?

Now if we were talking about Chris Christie...

He's probably just recalling his school days and thinking nothing has changed.
