High School Girl Threatened With Violence By Christian Classmates After Suing School To Remove...

A Prayer Mural...

....*snip*

When U.S. District Court Judge Ronald R. Lagueux issued his decision to rule in favor of Ahlquist, he went out of his way to praise her for her brave stand for constitutional values.

“The Court refrains from second-guessing the expressed motives of the Committee members, but nonetheless must point out that tradition is a murky and dangerous bog. While all agree that some traditions should be honored, others must be put to rest as our national values and notions of tolerance and diversity evolve. At any rate, no amount of history and tradition can cure a constitutional infraction. The Court concludes that Cranston’s purposes in installing and, more recently, voting to retain the Prayer Mural are not clearly secular. Plaintiff is clearly an articulate and courageous young woman, who took a brave stand, particularly in light of the hostile response she has received from her community.”

But the ruling of the court hasn’t stopped relentless threats of violence and ridicule from her classmates, who have taken to using social media to vent their hate and rage. Here is a but a small sample of the kinds of things these “Christians” are saying courtesy of JesusFetusFajitaFishsticks:

“May that little, evil athiest teenage girl and that judge BURN IN HELL!”

“yeah, well i want the immediate removal of all atheists from the school, how about that?”

“Jessica Ahlquist may have won her case, but she’s going straight to hell. #Godovereverything”

“I hope there’s lots of banners in hell when your rotting in there you atheist fuck #TeamJesus”

“If this banner comes down, hell i hope the school burns down with it!”

“U little brainless idiot, hope u will be punished, you have not win sh..t! Stupid little brainless skunk!”

“Fuck Jessica alquist I’ll drop anchor on her face”

“definetly laying it down on this athiest tommorow anyone else?”

It doesn't have any impact on what were or weren't the teachings of "Jesus" if "Jesus" actually existed.

Ann Coulter is a Deadhead. Does that mean Jerry Garcia was personally responsible for every dumb-fuck thing that lady has ever said? No. Does that mean that I, as another Deadhead, like being lumped in with Ann Coulter in any way, shape, or form? No. Does Ann Coulter's attitude even remotely exemplify some of the shit *I* got out of listening to the Grateful Dead? No.

But she's STILL a Deadhead. because she likes the Dead and furthermore she identifies herself that way. Same with "Christians". Although these a-holes are not indicative of ALL "Christians", merely saying every bigot, shitwit and asshole who self-identifies as a "Christian" (and in case you haven't noticed, there's quite a few of them in this country) isn't really a "Christian" doesn't make it so.

Martin Luther King was a Christian. These people are Christians.

Deal with it.

My point was about Jesus embracing them.....if he could theoretically do such a thing in a religious/higher power/afterlife context that they believe in. I see nothing in his teachings that tells me they are working their way into his good graces, as much as they chant his name.

By the way, being a fan of a band's music, and embracing a religious ideaology is a fairly shaky comparison. Sean Hanitty plays Bruce Hornsby's "That's Just The Way It Is" as his theme song. Does that make any sense?

It's like when a well-meaning conservative like Rick Santorum says that legal gay marriage will lead to people marrying their toasters, all of a sudden folks start yabbering about "slippery slope arguments".. it's funny!

I guess it might have something to do with the fact that it actually IS a slippery slope argument... naaaah, ya think?

Sort of how the inevitable protests regarding "not REAL Christians" lend themselves to "No True Scotsman" fallacy comparisons.

Because they are.

But that is way over the top. You are condemning over half of all Americans, and a very diverse group of Americans.

Since Christians make up such a large percentage of Americans, it is natural that a significant percentage of bad behavior will come from this group. Some of it will even be motivated by their religion.

'Christian' is just a label that includes a very diverse group of people that know and believe a few facts about their religion. Really it doesn't mean much.

Since their religion puts few demands on the faithful, and claims to reward them with eternal life while claiming to punish the non believers with infinite punishment, quite a few scum bags will find their religion attractive. But that seems to be the case for all religions, even if the other religions make different claims.

McCollum v. Board of Education went all the way to the US Supreme court back in 1947. That family suffered a great deal of abuse because of it. There was an excellent documentary made about it titled The Lord Is Not On Trial Here Today. Watch it if you can. Seriously.
