Take it to the Supreme Court if need be, but no. Just no. How would that even be fair to the SS agents? They'd be serving a prison sentence too. Enough.

(4,250 posts)Or we can pass a law removing protection from convicted felons or something along those lines.
Denying it by degree is not how things should be done.

(35,076 posts)He'll get a "house arrest" sentence and he'll wear a cuff while playing golf, etc. The secret service guys can deal with that I'm sure.
Any SS guys who get hired to protect Chump should be carefully vetted by the Department of Justice. No more Maga-buddies running his errands for him while they're getting paid a salary from Uncle Sam.

(3,820 posts)Just not his house. Get a 2 bedroom 1 bath house in a middle class area. No cable TV. Restricted internet. The prison bureau decides his groceries. Restricted visitation. Only those on his list, just like in prison. Only on certain days between certain hours. Oh and his mail is monitored. Just like prison except at a house.

(36,305 posts)...would do as much as humanly possible to protect him while he is punished. Stick him in a cell by himself. Feed him through a slot in the door. Let the SS prep his meals and inspect his cell whenever they want to. Put him on 24/7 suicide watch with a pair of guards outside his cell. What more can anyone do to protect him? To paraphrase the shit gibbon himself, his keepers shouldn't be so nice to criminals.

(12,027 posts)and his pension if convicted. But if that doesn't happen put the SS in an office with a camera on outside of his room.
If they don't make an example of him then its game over. I have noticed lately more and more republicans are starting to speak out. I think they know we need to set things right. It's the fringe right that yells the loudest making us think it's all republicans.

He would need some special accommodation, and I would support that. I don't want a martyr. I want a feeble, forgotten old man who dies alone of a painful chronic disease.

Honestly, who would choose prison over living in another country? Just soft rendition his doughy ass, and let's be done with him. We could breathe fresh air. We don't want him back. He wouldn't have to hardly hide at all.

People really need to catch up on the newer prison systems out there. They're not all open bars facing a hall anymore. They're not all open access for most of the prisoners anymore.
They've changed to account for high-risk prisoners.
Really.

(16,326 posts)...that Secret Service for ex-presidents was also about keeping an eye on them to make sure they don't sell secrets or something.
I realize now either I was wrong or the Secret Service has become completely incompotent since 2016.
In all seriousness, if he's convicted and sentenced to incarceration, Gitmo would be the most appropriate holding facility.
It was specifically built to securely hold people of international interest who have seriously harmed us and may still pose threats to our nation, and need to be kept away from the general prison population for one reason or another.
And maybe he could see his maralago from there.

(55,824 posts)It is really quite simple.
Trump has the American people over a barrel by pretending he cannot be sent to prison.
It is nonsense, of course he can be sent to prison IF we have the will to do so.

(2,339 posts)I have to agree. If there are prison guards, then he is guarded, right? What good would more Secret Service people do? They'd be in the way.
Options? Exile would be nice, but since he'd never shut up, it wouldn't work. Home confinement won't work because he'd cheat. He needs to be locked up.
I'd imagine the stress of not being in control may solve the problem, though.

(look him up on YouTube--he's been great at explaining everything in plain English, which is hard to do given all the different indictments) there are facilities that house "high value detainees," such as terrorists and members of organized crime, in which case he wouldn't technically need Secret Service protection. Assuming I understood Kirschner correctly, all of Trump's activities would be controlled and monitored by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
One of the last things I'd like to see would be home detention because it's not really a punishment for someone with a large property to roam around in. I don't think it'd act as much of a deterrent to anyone who might consider in the future attempting to do what Trump did, either.
