They ain't shutting down their services. It's still a nice gesture. They even hid their logo. A first for a google doodle.

It would have been more impactful to bring the site down but, as has been discussed here already, that would impact many businesses greatly. But there is still education there for politically blind folk. They might research it. On Google! How recursive!

It's still functioning as normal. It amounts to little more than their latest graphic tease.

I'm not disparaging anyone for blacking out or not. I'm just saying that there's really not much going on with Google here.

I'm not judging Google for not blacking out. I don't think internet companies necessarily have a moral obligation to do so today. That being said, I also don't judge people for blacking out. I'm not a fan of SOPA so I have no qualms with those who choose to register their opposition by shutting down.

But Google's behavior here is a bit obvious in the 'have your cake and eat it too' department.
