It's to prevent the temptation to look at porn sites, but it looks at EVERYTHING!

(6,956 posts)This sounds like something that someone battling an addiction does.
Non-drinking alcoholics have a sponsor they can call when they need a little extra support to stay off the bottle.
Non-using drug addicts have a sponsor they can call when they need that extra support to stay off the needle or the pill.
So Johnson (or his son) have a sponsor they have to account to if they...well...you know what...
Seems like having an accountability partner is because you need someone to keep you off the ...well...you know what. Just weird.

(64,493 posts)I'm not disagreeing with you that this is a sign of an addiction. I'm saying it's different from having a sponsor. This is an abdication of personal responsibility
A sponsor is someone the addict calls for support and guidance in moments of doubt. The sponsor is supposed to respond to requests for support, not spy on the addict or initiate nagging.
This Covenant thing is handing somebody else the responsibility to spy on you. The point of recovery is to take responsibility for one's own behavior. This is the opposite: participants are saying they don't want to take responsibility; they want somebody else to spy on them. And then do what?
