...
More than half, 55%, of women said identifying as a communist is a red flag, but other sociopolitical stances were more problematic.
A potential partner saying that there are only two genders or saying "all lives matter" were both bigger red flags than being a communist so was having no hobbies.
Being a "MAGA Republican" was the biggest red flag, with 76% of women saying this was not a desirable trait.

That's the biggest red flag? WTF?

(50,477 posts)... any kind of "wokeness" or DEI or affirmative action or ordinary government social programs. (Talking wide averages and tendencies.)
US women tend to be more caring and to care more about caring programs and have more empathy than the males (again, averages).
magats label everything left of center-right as "communist".
But we have always known that women tend to wiser than men (on average).

59% of Latino men voted for Biden.

(50,477 posts)Men 53% Trump. That is a lean. I wrote about men and women. I did not write about "racial" demographics. The Original Post was about men and women, not about Hispanics vs African Americans.
Women 57% Biden. That is a lean the other way, a little stronger.
MyNameIsJonas
(744 posts)You're the one who mentioned, as you put it, US males tend to lean MAGA.
No. White males do. There is a huge difference, as your link proves: men of color do not lean MAGA.

(18,912 posts)white male attitudes drown out those of the black men subset.
MyNameIsJonas
(744 posts)In fact, MAGA is a white person problem in general.
Trump won white women with 55%.
The only reason Trump lost the woman vote, and why this whole point makes sense, is because women of color overwhelmingly supported Biden. He won 90% of Black women and 69% of Latino women.
White men also are the largest portion of the voting electorate (making up 35% of the vote according to the poster's link) - followed by white women (32%). The only reason Trump is as competitive as he is is solely because of white people in general - not just white men (but women).
If only white women voted, Trump would still win comfortably.

(50,477 posts)It doesn't matter that your facts are true, they are not the set of people I am writing about, and not the set of people the OP is writing about.
You are writing about subsets of the people the OP and my posts are about. Your points are valid, but they are not the full set of the OP. There was some incredulity about the set of all males in the country. My reference explains the foundation of the statistic in the OP by looking at voters as proxies for the whole population of males and females, a valid proposition because of the political nature of the issues in the OP.
It is a cheap disrespectful tactic to try to put words in people's mouths.
Please stop trying.
Make your points, but make your points as your own points.

(744 posts)Men of color do not lean MAGA and your blanket statement should have qualifiers added to it because it's insanely broad and disingenuous. In the end, MAGA is a result of white men and white women. They both overwhelmingly voted Trump.
Men don't lean MAGA. White men do. Unless you don't consider men of color valid.

(50,477 posts)You asked for a citation.
I gave you a good citation.
What citation should I have given you? The citation that confirms the first fact I stated in my post (in the first few words of the subject line). The most prominent fact.
I gave you what you requested.
When you read my post, you will also see that I wrote nothing about intelligence. Since you surely distinguish between intelligence and wisdom I am at a loss as to why you would think wrote about intelligence when I actually wrote about wisdom. Did you read carelessly?

(18,912 posts)Personally, I think this all centers on fragile masculinity where empathy is considered weakness. An epidemic among US males of all types. Not surprising given that our society frames empathy and masculinity as mutually exclusive.

(50,477 posts)magas are more prone than average people to "manufactured insecurity" (Astra Taylor, 2023 Massey Lecturer (MLK Jr was 1967 lecturer)).
The right wing media push paranoia and fear. Anything with a tinge of socialism gets tarred with "communist!". Insecurity sells eyeballs to advertisers for media company profit. Even WaPo and NYT are prone to it, as revealed by a study of front page stories posted here yesterday.
magas want to preserve their white privilege which they see as being under attack and eroding. They also see themselves as losing jobs and power and want to blame somebody. Available at hand are the old John Birch Society / Sen. McCarthy tropes from the 1950s.

(3,228 posts)Yes, MAGA is definitely the red flag (or should it be red hat?) in my case. While undergoing counseling at the rape crisis center in 2021, I told the therapist that not only would I never marry someone enamored with T**** and his special blend of hate and violence, I wouldn't go on a date with him. I guess I feel if someone is pro-T**** that person is also pro-rape and anti-woman. Too harsh?

Compared with such, saying that you are a communist on some date-site profile does not even register...
(unfortunately, that didn't happen until the 'dating' stage was passed, and the cohabitating stage was well underway... true story)
'Communist'?? That would actually be on my "turn-on list", not a red flag at all...

Hell, according to the GQP, all of us Democrats are "Communists" anyway--

Considering that communism generally comes with totalitarianism, and then becomes fake communism that ultimately benefits the ruling class - "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" - most leftists who recognize that aren't very interested in it. Democratic socialism is a completely different concept. Thing is, right-wingers and the politically naive like to conflate the two.
