‘Robin Hood in reverse’

http://www.kansas.com/2012/01/19/2180572/robin-hood-in-reverse.html

Kansas isn’t much of an Occupy Wall Street-type state. But Gov. Sam Brownback’s tax-reform plan, which raises taxes on the poor while cutting taxes on the wealthy, might turn it into one.

It’s certainly causing people, including some fiscal conservatives, to scratch their heads and wonder what the administration is thinking.

(snip)

But because Brownback also wants to eliminate several tax deductions and credits, Kansans who earn less than $25,000 a year – more than half a million tax filers – would end up paying an average of $156 more in income taxes. Meanwhile, those making more than $250,000 a year – about 21,000 taxpayers – would see an average cut of $5,200.

All total, low-income taxpayers would pay $88.2 million more in taxes under Brownback’s plan while the wealthy would pay $110 million less.

(end snip)

and meanwhile, back at the House

Ministers to deliver petitions calling on Kansas Speaker O’Neal to step down

Topeka — Two pastors will deliver more than 30,000 petition signatures calling for the resignation of House Speaker Mike O’Neal for an email he forwarded that referred to President Barack Obama and a Bible verse that states, “Let his days be few and brief.”

The petition put together by the online network Faithful America criticizes O’Neal, R-Hutchinson, for using scripture to pray for Obama’s death.

The petition reads: “As people of faith, we believe that scripture should never be used to justify praying for the death of anyone. Speaker O’Neal’s hateful abuse of scripture is unacceptable and a disgrace to his office, and he should immediately resign.”

There are Occupiers in Kansas.

And Brownback is definitely one of the principal reasons for this fact.

Man, it is sure nice to see that.
Now if they could only tear up those huge lawns in front of their churches and plant gardens to feed the hungry...
