Former Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd, currently chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, condemned the SOPA Blackout Day as a gimmick and an abuse of power by the Web companies participating in the protest against pending anti-piracy legislation.
Wikipedia, Google, Reddit, Craigslist and many other sites blacked out, or self-censored their services Wednesday, in protest to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA).
While supporters of the legislation including the MPAA, the Recording Industry Association of America and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have argued that legislation is needed to tackle the problem of foreign rogue sites that peddle counterfeit products to Americans, opponents of the legislation argue that it would jeopardize free speech.
Dodd who received special treatment from mortgage companies during the subprime mortgage meltdown, companies he condemned as abusive issued a statement on the eve of Wednesdays blackout, in which he said that the blackout day was a dangerous gimmick designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals.

(39,961 posts)I didn't know he was the President of the MPAA.
As far as I'm concerned, he's a Republican, though I should have known that from the tepid "financial reform" bill he crafted.
Fuck Chris Dodd, and he is not a Democrat, he's a steaming pile of dogshit.
Excuse my language but this revelation makes me despise him with a passion.

"Not surprisingly, this news was met with consternation from the Internet/tech world from Day 1 (Oct. 26, 2011) and nary a peep from the TV news world until last week when Reddit became the first site to announce its protest-by-going-dark campaign. MediaMatters conducted a study of the major network news programs and found that during the time period Oct. 26, 2011 to Jan. 12, 2012, there were a total of two mentions of the controversial bill in the evening hours."
If anything television "news" has abused its' power by purposely dumbing down the people about the critical issues of the day either through omission, obufuscation or just plain lies.
This long time propaganda manipulation by television of the people; has only encumbered their ability to make wise political and policy deliberation.
Thanks for the thread, CurtEastPoint.
