To all the Christians here on DU and everywhere,
A man who was persecuted saw the bigger picture and gave himself over to his tormentors. He suffered and died, but believed his suffering and death would help deliver resolve to his followers/countrymen. It wasn't a protest because his audience was taken from him. The few words he was able to deliver were of hope for the future and resignation to the forces he hoped to unmask for all to see.
Navalny had much support around the world and from many within his own country. He had a loving family and had already suffered an assassination attempt because of the threat he posed. Instead of leaning on his relative celebrity for a brighter future for himself, he willingly submitted to injustice and mistreatment.
He did it to prove a point: that no matter how strong 'the devil'--our humanity can not be taken away. He urged others to believe in the cause of democracy, humanity, and equality; to believe in their own power, and the promise of a better tomorrow for future generations.
I don't believe in God or that Jesus was meant to deliver salvation. I do believe that a very real man, a human being with great understanding, allowed himself to suffer so that others could see the truth: a maniacal tyrant, with no saturation point for satisfaction, was and is still a threat to all of us, and that we had better do what we must to shut him down.
Our future depends on it.

Low-key as he appears, I find him to be charismatic.

(13,109 posts)The last few years left him very thin, but he still stood tall and always spoke of himself in a positive way, like "I'm happy" or "I'm well" and always thanked others for their interest. He expressed love and hope. At death he was 47 yo, and even though bony thin was still a very handsome man.
Not once did he whine.

(154,259 posts)I will ask you, where does your confidence in your post come from?
Did you read something that Navalny had written? Or was your impetus your own gut feeling?
I do hope that you're right.

(66,646 posts)He knew they would imprison him & kill him. They'd already tried to kill him with poison.

(1,035 posts)unless he was put in witness protection, and it is doubtful he could have been protected for long with Putin's thugs on the prowl.

(13,109 posts)His final message was broadcast after his death. Every other interview he gave spoke the same language of hope, resolve, and truth to power. His family and spokespeople all shared that his pursuit was not for himself, but for others. He urged everyone to never give up and that together we have power to overcome the present situation.
Putin feared him.

(13,109 posts)Now we have work to do to stand up to Putin and all his assets (emphasis on the ass part of the word), of which we have many working to help Putin.
We need to fund Ukraine. Vote the rest of the asses out.

(66,395 posts)memorable sacrificial moment, no doubt. But at the time I didn't sense that it was critical to ending the war. I don't think we'll ever know. It was part of a much bigger movement...

(22,786 posts)For their dreams of democracy. The people in this country who are supporting Putin and deliberately working for our demise need to be called out and voted out. There are people around the world giving up their lives for what we have.we cannot take it for granted that itll all work out for the best..we have to make sure it does. RIP brave Alexei Navalny 🌺

(92,542 posts)I agree with everything you said. What a beautiful brave man. His wife, kids and team worked tirelessly by his side. He was for everything we believe in for our countries. He was murdered, yes murdered by Putin and it can happen here.

The least we can do is stand up VOTE and let our voices be heard

(13,109 posts)We have more power than we realize, so let us use it. We will stand up to the fake Christian hypocrites, to fascists and bigots, to the corporations who prey on us all to enrich themselves, to dictators who strip away our rights, to propaganda and those who spread it, to those who sell-out our values and democracy, and to those who take everything for granted.
Big Blue Wave.
We will show up!

(10,266 posts)and it was much sadder watching it this time, knowing that Putin had finally murdered him.
I hope it will serve as a lesson as what can happen here if Trump gets back in the White House.
