General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCan we have a loud thread in honor of Merle Haggard being alive?
Here's to Merle and his continued failure to be dead!
I heard today that Merle Haggard is alive, and I was so thrilled to hear this about a man whose place in a conscious thought of mine for at least ten years has been about nil.
Thank goodness that Merle is not dead!

(62,444 posts)The main thing I learned tonight on DU is that we have a fast acting world coroner's office.
That. And Meryl Haggard is confirmed to be not dead.

(13,252 posts)That would be 'overly unemotional', no?
In other words, the opposite of 'overly emotional' is NOT *normally* emotional. Hmmmmm. I would argue that the opposite of overly emotional is apathy. Which begs the question, why is apathy considered 'normal' and emotion is derided as abnormal?
Isn't it amazing how word choice colors and attempts to define that which is 'normal' versus that which is considered 'abnormal' and therefore worthy of disdain?

(13,252 posts)In case you didn't notice, I was defending your OP and the implied slam the poster had made in reply to your OP. You're welcome.
Don't worry. You've shown me the error of my ways.

(62,444 posts)I had to do my scholarly learning second hand from my Dad, due to our unfortunately high latitude.
He done taught me to say "victuals" around polite folk and on Sundays.
He wrote in Spencerian script, was mighty at ciphering, wore a bowtie, and could skin just about anything with four legs and fur.

(37,573 posts)There's only one elementary school in Yankton? Or there's a school in Norfolk called Yankton elementary? There were something like 8 elementary schools in Huiron - Washington, Jefferson, Buchanan, McKinley, Wilson, Lincoln, and Madison. Okay, that's only 7, but I probably missed one. Or maybe Virgil should count too, because there was a one room rural school that they closed when I was in the 4th grade and bussed the students into Huron.
