"Cause and manor of death"

"Manor of death!"

This is a quote from a news story from Phoenix today:

Phoenix police say detectives are conducting a death investigation, stopping short of calling it a homicide. Investigators are now waiting for results from the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner to determine “the cause and manor of death.”

From the context, I'm not sure who is responsible for the "Manor of Death." Is the quote from the police?
No matter which party is responsible, another depressing (although somewhat humorous) example of our educational decay....

Sometimes I get a thank you. Otherwise I’d guess AI authorship is responsible.

Give it some time. Homophones will make it into the AI/ML lexicon eventually. Maybe.

Love the graphic. It almost looks like a church. Which can be scary places. Especially for children.

It always cracks me up to see the opposite version, when someone, trying to be clever, writes "to the manner born".

I just looked at a recent issue of my college newspaper, and was beyond appalled. I managed to get through (barely!) two articles, my mental red pen working furiously. I have a letter in to the editor and publisher, even though the term has ended. I rather doubt that I will hear anything from either of them, even as an alumna.

bypassing the editing department. The internet doesn't help, as bad habits and errors get accelerated and promulgated with no checks.

Variant and new spellings often reflect verbal changes in the language. Usually, writers will sometimes reflect that with a leading comma: 'cause.

The bane of "typing" on a tablet or cellphone; if you don't haptics turned on, it's easy to miss letters or slide over and hit nearby letters on the smaller screens. I often end up with something that looks like a cat walking over your keyboard as you're typing in real time.
