BREAKING: Martha-Ann Alito caught on undercover audio saying this horrible statement: "I want a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag because I have to look across the lagoon at the Pride flag for the next month." Horrible.

(5,875 posts)they were just left out of the Bible... not "Proper" according to the context and culture of that ancient age. And if that's correct, and IF there was a Jesus Christ, then there surely was a Mary Magdalene who funded most of his ministry from her family's money. And I'd lay odds of an "illicit" relationship between the two. That's as much true as any story I've read in the book, IMO.

(71,216 posts)Why is she named in the Bible stories.
Seems odd for female to have a starring role in his story.
Or was Jesus gay and she was his financial backer.
No one knows.
I agree, there are missing pieces.

People say,.. he was a double blackbelt in Taekwando.
Well,.. that's what I heard someone say.
Irish_Dem
(71,216 posts)She got her Taekwando belts while in junior high, could smash boards with her bare feet and hands.
And turn an adult male upside down and on the floor in the blink of an eye.
She was tiny and never made it to 5 ft. So it was startling to see her do this.
Of course she understood she could not do that to people who posed no threat, she took her
skills seriously and knew they were to be used for sport and threats.
The funny thing is that the boys in junior high and high school would tease and play pranks
on the girls who didn't like it. The boys asked my daughter out and were nice to her, but gave
her space and didn't prank her and were always polite to her.

(2,332 posts)He said in Matthew 5:18 that all of the laws would be in effect until the Earth was no more. He was talking about those laws in the OT like Leviticus 20:13 that specifically demand the murder of homosexuals.
So, no, I doubt he would be flying a pride flag.

(2,332 posts)It was a promise not to mass murder all life on earth again after wiping out everyone but the drunkard Noah and his family:
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
--Genesis 9:12-17
Not one bloody bit about love in there.
Isn't it amazing what one learns by actually, you know, reading the book?

(11,388 posts)She is referring to an article written by Robin Givhan of the Washington Post, not the NYT, written in 2006. Robin is a fashion critic. She won her Pulitzer for fashion criticism. She often wrote about politicians and celebrities. She did write that Martha Ann's suit looked like a Lazy Boy, paraphrasing. She also wrote that she went to Princeton and knew all about the alumni Group Sammy joined to prevent women and minority admissions.

(74 posts)Come on, be better. It's what is inside of Ms. Alito that matters, that really counts, just as it is with every human being. And I suspect that you know that, but just could not resist the desire to insult her. There is much to criticize her for, but physical appearance? Seriously, come on.

(71,184 posts)I have to say Mrs. Alito better hope there is no God because if there is she will be sent straight to hell. Love your neighbor as yourself. Also, the so-called Christian right worships Trump (idol)...a deadly sin. It didn't turn out well for Moses or his followers escaping Egypt.
Love your neighbour for them doesn't mean loving everyone. Neighbour can mean just about anything.
As it is, the same guy in the same book talked about how he'd create divisiveness between people and he talked a whole lot about torturing people who didn't agree with him. Forever.
Maybe you call sadism like that love, but, me, I have other and far better ideas about what love is.

slightlv
(5,875 posts)and it's not sin; it's not homosexuality; it's not sexuality; it's not abortion. It's LOVE. And he had some VERY strong words about that subject!
Love for God and Others is the Most Important Commandment.
Jesus replied, The most important commandment is this: Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these.
Love is Peaceful. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. Matthew 5
Love is Peaceful. God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. Matthew 5
The next important aspect, in accordance with the Franciscans, at least, is Justice: Like Francis of Assisi, we too can be transformed by the power of love and embrace the call to Christian discipleship with passion. The task at hand is to see that the Word continues to call us to move beyond ourselves, to enter into an evermore intimate relationship with God, to make Gods story our story, to work for justice and peace in our world, and to embrace the love and suffering that comes with following Christ.
In these early words, long before the cross, (and before He was 30) we see the earliest inkling of what will eventually lead the religious and civil leaders of his time to crucify Jesus, as well as a summary of what his mission (and by virtue of our baptism, our mission) is all about: social justice.
I see no place in any of this for people like MAA and other followers of T*. There whole world is about judgement, shaming, and hate. They try to cover their butts with "Love the Sinner; hate the sin." But those words did not come from Christ; nor are there any words like them in the Bible.
I am no longer a Christian. If I were, I would not be the kind of Christian these magats think are "good." I believe in Love, even when it's hard. And I have given my life over to Social Justice, sometimes to my detriment. It doesn't take a Christian to do either one. But I don't believe you can be a true Christian without doing them.
YMMV, of course.

slightlv
(5,875 posts)very much in the vein of the war gods of that time and culture. Marduk comes to mind as an example. Of course, if these Magats believed and worshipped him totally, and were vocal about it, they'd have to admit to the moral high ground of Judaism, since we're talking Old Testament here. And they *can't* do that, it would totally interfere with their White Christian Nationalism.
In fact, the only current religion that I see closely aligned to Magats and the Repuglican party is Satanism, as espoused and practiced by Anton LeVey. But oh my gods, wouldn't that just turn their heads 360, as in Linda Blair style! (LOL)

So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got, well I'll tell ya
So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
