The polls remain a deeply disturbing and devastating indictment

of Republican voters. How more clownish and idiotic can this buffoon get before he loses their votes? You'd think they'd at least start to jump to Bob Kennedy. He may be crazy and stubborn like Trump, but at least he's not a mewling moron completely bereft of self-awareness.

What are these people thinking?

Your average Trump voter actually isn't a mindless hate machine. They use critical thinking & apply social niceties in most of their fault situations. They're kind to neighbors, understanding of the life failures of the ones they love, don't harass or prayer co-workers if they're gay or Muslim or an immigrant. They're as likely as Biden voters to donate to ô

Case studies I've read and personal experience have shown me that they compartmentalize such that the toxic anti-social inclinations they show in politics don't carry over into the rest of their lives

It just takes enough whackjobs living in the right locations to tilt the electoral college toward the maga fascists. Don't forget, 40%-50% of the American voting public didn't even cast a ballot in 2016 and 2020. Which means that even an insane and dangerous minority have the potential to destroy our democracy.

RIP to the great Karl Wallinger

We’re setting sail to the place on the map
From which no one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that burned
Drawn by the promise of the women and the lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It's the place where they keep all the darkness you need
You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby
You will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow
Oh, oh, oh
Save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of fools, no, no
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of fools, no, no
I want to run and hide right now
Avarice and greed are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you drifting in the shallows
Or drowning in the oceans of history
Traveling the world, you're in search of no good
But I'm sure you'll build your Sodom like you knew you would
Using all the good people for your galley slaves
As you're little boat struggles through the warning waves, but you don't pay
You will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow, yeah
You're gonna pay tomorrow
Save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of fools, no, no, no
Save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of fools
Where's it comin' from?
Oh, where's it goin' to?
It's just a, it's just a ship of fools
All abord now

Wed Jul 31, 2024, 11:31 PM
Jul 2024

. . . who are going to get out there and vote for Trump.

They have all sorts of reasons.

Some just live in areas where "everyone" votes Republican, so that's what they are doing.

Some are stuck in the fox bubble.

Many are struggling. We cannot underestimate the toll being taken by inflation in rent and other monthly costs like auto insurance and health insurance. A lot of these folks are are voting for Trump because things suck and they think Trump will "shake things up." They want change for change sake.

Some are voting for Trump because they think those "blues" hate them, or hate their religious beliefs. They feel vilified and that feeling binds them together. And demonizing Trump and his voters only feeds those beliefs.

A whole lot of them don't actually pay much attention to the rallies or the speeches, or events like today's. They've got enough on their plates.

Kamala seems to have the right idea. Make short shrift of Trump -- talk about him as little as possible -- and focus on a message of hope for the future.

Check out groups like Braver Angels if you really want to understand what's up with the "Reds."

It's time to get over our obsession with Trump. Harping on today's idiocy (and there is some idiocy every day) isn't winning us any voters. It's all been said. Kamala got it right when she just wrote it off as "same old same old" and shifted to Inspiring hope for the future. That's what can win voters. Actually reaching across divides to unite. That's what we need to be doing.

If very few, then the task is to persuade undecided voters and of course to GOTV among likely Democratic voters.

Without a doubt, the Harris campaign has to offer popular policies and a positive vision for the future.

But the campaign should not shy away from pointing out the negative consequences of another Trump presidency -- not just Project 2025, but the threat he poses to democracy and his egregious character flaws.

Media, us here, speeches. Count the number of minutes/words talking about Trump, and then count the number talking about the values we share as Americans and the things we have accomplished in the past -- and the things we can accomplish in the future -- when choose those values. It's about 90% (or more) Trump or "them" and 10% (or less) hope/legislative change/bettter future/values.

Kamala is shifting the focus. She does a great job of dispensing with Trump quickly and focusing on drawing a picture of a better America.

And turning out the vote for Harris is the key because there are a lot of people -- good people -- people we need to be talking to, who will be voting for Trump for reasons that are very different than what you think.

But we spend waaaayyyy too much time focused on him and not focused on inspiring hope and action -- on building a picture of what a better future could look like for all Americans. Talking about REAL unity. What we can do as Americans if we remember the values we share. We have a lot more in common with a whole heck of a lot of "them" then you think.

The clownishness and idiocy are irrelevant to the majority of republican voters.

They want the hate. As long as the hate is there, the rest is irrelevant.

I'd love to think that people are all generally good, well meaning. And they may well be. On average. But averages mean there's a bunch above the line and a bunch below. 40% of the 50% who vote are below.

Local news stations
Airing anywhere in the country and find part of your answer.

If Mr Trump’s mouth is open, he is lying.
If Sinclair’s news is running, the Sinclair anchors repeat trump lies like gospel. They also repeat his earworms and frames.

He dropped a couple today. Laugh at them. They are ridiculous.

Fox News viewers are consistently the most mis- informed Americans. If you know someone watching Fox News, turn it off somehow. Remember rural America is still dependent on cable and many cannot cut the cord.

Most are not with Mr. Trump. They are aligned with a lie. Error is difficult to admit for all of us and dang nigh impossible if you never hear how and why you are wrong from a source you trust.

We need to keep reaching out, listening and turning off Fox and Sinclair.

They are our neighbors, our families, our erstwhile friends and our fellow citizens.

Most of them are decent people caught up in trump’s enormous con. T
Remembering that and trying to laugh (even when the humor is brutal) helps me.

They just live in a different world. Their authority sources are preachers, right wing "personalities," and Fox News. They have been programmed to hate and fear anything they don't understand for generations, and the political right has tuned into this with a chilling precision, an overwhelming network of radio, TV, and internet, and dump trucks full of money. Since the advent of Fox News and the rise of Rush Limbaugh in the early 90's, an almost-impenetrable ecosystem of disinformation has been established, and because they have tapped into religion, it will be sustained as long as the U.S. is a religious country. They have their worldview and will not budge from it, and facts don't matter when that happens.

They have lost the ability to think for themselves.

Some of them have even found 'god' while supporting trump.

One of my family members said they will never change their mind about trump.

They said 'god' wants trump and anything trump does is fine with them. (This person was not religious until they started following trump).

If you try to have a discussion with them, provide links, show them videos, or news clips they respond with all those sources are lies.

There is no way to reach them.

trump is their 'god' and he can do no wrong.
