Schumer: The lower Trump gets in the polls, the more unhinged he becomes. He is unhinged. He is scared. A leading Republican senator said to me this morning, "We are going to lose because of this guy."

There. Fixed it. They only won once with this guy & that was cuz of a centuries old stupid rule that should be abolished. Technically, he lost by over 3 million votes in 2016.

(8,464 posts)months before the election Trump knew he was going to lose because of his disasterous handling of the pandemic so he and his guys concocted a plan to steal the election...Bill Barr began questioning the validity of mail-in ballots, Louis DeJoy slowed the mail, removed mailboxes, and trashed sorting machines, and state election officials eliminated vote centers...Trump did his part by warning his rally goers the only way he could lose is if Biden rigged the election...add to that, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, and Rudy Giuliani knew the early returns would favor Trump and they advised Trump to declare victory the night of the election and demand the vote count stop...but if the count continued (it did) and Biden won (he did), then they would file multiple lawsuits challenging the outcome convinced Trump's assholes on the Supreme Court would decide in Trump's favor citing Gore v Bush as precedent...
Trump's rage obsession with the 2020 election stems from one thing....Trump thought he had the election in the bag and, yet, he lost...so in Trump's toxic mind where everyone is as corrupt as he is, that meant Biden "out-fixed" Trump's fixed election...oh my!
CrispyQ

(21,238 posts)They are incapable of discussing race, period. And no one more so than Trump. And what's worse for them is that Trump is incapable of letting it go now, he absolutely cannot just take the loss and change the subject.
You've got multiple Trump surrogates now saying "colored people." You've got his team Tweeting racist memes. They are absolutely doubling down on Trump's performance at the NABJ. He thinks he has a win on this still, because he fuindamentally misunderstands black culture. He thinks people don't understand mixed races. He thinks black people will consider Harris less black because she's half Indian, that's not how that works. Kamala's Indian mother didn't make her any less the target of racism than any other black person out there, she's had the full experience regardless of being of mixed heritage. And I believe the longer he holds onto this, the more likely it is he lets slip something he can't take back.
Harris is going to win the black vote more than Obama did. It's going to be 97-3 and it's going to come with record black turnout.

(18,140 posts)Trump doesn't know how to do anything with discretion, and his dementia is gradually eating away at whatever self control he once had. He showed more of his ugly racist side at the NABJ interview than he ever has before, and it's only going to get worse.
I think having to run against Kamala instead of Joe is his worst nightmare. It has brought out the worst in him and will continue to do so. With luck, the downward spiral will accelerate between now and November. He has cultists who will stick with him no matter what, but at the rate he's going he will lose more and more of the fence sitters and the people who would normally vote Republican no matter what.

(19,699 posts)If they had any character in their spines they would have stood up to the base and told them the truth about Trump by impeaching and convicting him. But the reality is theyre all scared to death of their own people, and that says even more about those people, our neighbors, co-workers, etc. than it does about the convicted felon. Thats his real legacy, that he exposed the festering boil among our populace and legitimized it.

(1,764 posts)Republicans were going to have a brokered convention to choose another candidate. But they realized that because Trump was so wildly popular with the 80% of their base who are authoritarians, they could not win without him. So they put party before country and chose Trump. The corporate Republicans knew that with Trump there was a possibility of destroying democracy in the US. What they were in denial about was that choosing an authoritarian Strong Leader was likely to destroy their party.

(19,699 posts)I think it was retNewt Gingrich who ushered in the take no prisoners - Party before Country brand of politics that is fully embraced by MAGA and the Freedom Caucus today.
Trump was not an unknown quantity back in 15. Surely the GOP leadership knew who and what he was. What they miscalculated on was the base. They knew Trump was an easily manipulated tool, but they didnt anticipate how voraciously the base would latch on yo his racist fueled populism and how rabidly they would punish anyone in their party who stepped out of line.
Prior to Newt Grinch...I mean Gingrich, Dem's and Pub's would meet afterwards for coffee, at a bar, etc. to hammer out a compromise that was mutually beneficial. He not only ended it, even forbade other Pub's to use the gym at the same time as Dem's were. Everything had to go through him. Now, everything is heavily polarized. Stray from the purity and you get primaried.
I keep thinking, something has to give at some point...but it hasn't.

He knew she was black but he didn't know if his supporters knew she was black? He wanted them to know because he knows they are racist and would never vote for her if they knew she was black. He wanted to educate them.
He is a despicable human being.

(1,842 posts)left-blue vs. centrist-red two party system we used to have. There always were neo nazis and fringe far right radical groups - the difference now is that one of the two major parties got in bed with their far right radical white supremacist fringe thus enabling and empowering them. That element needs to be pushed back into the fringes where they belong. Once that happens then all the energy we are now putting into just holding the line against slipping into overt fascism then can go towards us working on other things like environment, restoring voter rights, etc.

(1,764 posts)For a democracy to be functional there must be at least two viable parties committed to democracy. The US only has one. Unless and until the corporate 20% of Republicans take back their party, or develop a viable new party committed to democracy, democracy in the US will be one election away from failure.

(11,005 posts)But it never stopped him. In fact, I think it helped him because it showed he wasn't afraid of the racism. And he would stand up to it.
I think the majority of Americans are Not racist. It's an issue the filthy-rich use as propaganda to keep workers from noticing the rich are picking our pockets and our tax dollars. Some people fall for it.
I don't know why but, when people are unstable they are more likely to be racist, misogynist, homophobic and bigots. Extreme racism can be a delusional symptom of a psychotic disorder. It can also be a symptom of milder personality disorders.
I think Pedo Trump and those weird people attracted to him, have serious psychological issues and need to stay away from the controls of power. Their mental issues and dementia are reflected in their racism. Unfortunately, in many countries, people with serious psychological problems are leaders.

Not only is prison waiting for him, but the woman who beat him was a prosecutor. His life will be shit if he loses. And he sees that happening right in front of him, his campaign crumbling, his cult members starting to wonder what is going on, his republican minions in Congress starting to regret the entire ticket. He has to know that he is making huge mistakes.

(1,357 posts)2nd - you are losing because YOU weak ass people were too worried about keeping your jobs instead of following the constitution.
YOU had the ability to kick him out at the first impeachment and, much as I hate to say it, if you had done that Pence would have been president and statistically would likely have won reelection as the incumbent.
YOU are weak kneed, selfish, shortsighted, corrupt, and you have destroyed your party.
THAT is why you are going to lose.

(3,936 posts)Aside from the shit-head at the top of the ticket.
They are on the wrong side of everything that is good about America.
They are on the wrong side of everything it means to be decent, moral, honest, ethical and patriotic.
The nation/world could die because of them (Climate Change, lack of Clean Water, etc.,) and all they care about is power and praying to Trump as their savior. They have corrupted their Christian Religion in the name of Trump.
Yes, they should lose and more than that, we should brand them - decent people all, with Trump as their false image.
When we finally know the truth about Trump and what he has done to the nation; and when we know what the GOP has done in service to Trump; then should all the people that supported the GOP be forever branded as such.

(759 posts)There was never any doubt. He would have won easily. Him being forced out and replaced by Harris made our chances more iffy, but Trump and Vance are doing the Democrats' dirty work for them and are continually self-destructing. (3,875 posts)You know, for a NORMAL Party, any ONE of the things Trump has done over the last decade would be disqualifying. Cheating on your third wife with a porn star while she was pregnant and then committing fraud to cover it up? Go home. Making fun of a disabled reporter? You're done. Calling veterans "suckers" and "losers"? Buh-bye. Getting impeached once, let alone twice? Out of there. ONE criminal conviction, let alone 34 felonies? Are you serious? Being adjudged guilty of rape? Forget about it. Tried to overthrow your own government? JFC.
But NONE of that was disqualifying for you guys. So now you get to live with the consequences of your decisions.
You know, Gary Hart was photographed on a boat with a woman who wasn't his wife and it ENDED his Presidential campaign. That's it. Just photographed with another woman. Al Franken was photographed ACTING like he was going to do something to a sleeping woman (he didn't even do it) TWENTY YEARS in the past, and he got drummed out of the Senate. But for the Republican Party, no bar is too low. Wanna know why? Because..........THEY. BELIEVE. IN. NOTHING.
