(22,660 posts)There was a major scandal in Argentina recently, where the fascist new administration (an impulse purchase by low-information voters - who now regret it) simply terminated federal aid to the country's 40,000 soup kitchens.
Where, of course, demand has doubled since Trump's fan-boy Milei was elected in November.
And - like the dictatorship in the early '80s (which imploded the economy) - they caterwaul about "there being no hunger in a country as rich as this" (!).
Provincial and local governments, as well as private donors, have stepped up to try to cover the shortfall - but the shortfall is staggering.

(52,523 posts)Forget about hunger for a minute. We require students to be in school and remain in school during lunch. We provide neither refrigeration nor heating for home brought food. Imagine if an employer did this to his or her workers and didn't offer free food. We would, rightly, call them a sweatshop running piece of crap. So why do we let schools do this?

I know two other Republican MN State Senators with the same attitude. They say they are for this and that. But when the rubber meets the road, they turn tail. One of them, my husband served with in the MN Air National Guard.
