He's not gonna last that long. Losing this time will kill him, and I'm fine with that.
All the more reason to vote for Harris-Walz.
I think after the loss this November, the GOP heads will make an earnest effort to finally cut him loose, but he won't let them go and his cult of voters is certainly doing whatever he asks. They're stuck with him until he dies.

(68,864 posts)I think it's pretty clear the is a cult personality & it's not that easy to retain the commitment & passion when the original personality is gone.
The dictators of WW2 are a pretty good example.
The Italians right wasn't as motivated after Mussolini. They were still there, but far less proud of being & as vocal about the fascists.
The Germans who were all-in on Hitler wasn't accepting of a replacement after Hitler iced himself.
The Japanese people weren't looking for a replacement leader after Tojo was gone.
Think of Mao & Stalin, as well.
Replacing a cult leader to the satisfaction of the followers is not as easy as we'd think.

I started a joke
That started the whole world crying
But i didn't see...
That the joke was on me
I started to cry
That started the whole world laughing
If i'd only seen
That the joke was on me
I looked at the skies
Running my hands over my eyes
I fell out of bed
And hurt my head from the things that i said
I finally died
That started the whole world living
If i'd only seen
That the joke was on me
a girl broke my heart as a teen when this came out.
But now
.this makes me laugh like hell instead of shedding tears back then.

My guess is the GOP has another season of molting to go through after November, and that snake will be shedding a LOT of different skins to get rid of trump's stench.

(37,340 posts)He will have some heavy baggage to overcome. Women are already organized and ready to vote against trump due to Roe. Here's what Carlson has said about women:
snip
Carlson found himself under intense scrutiny recently, as he insulted female soldiers, saying that having pregnant women fighting in our wars is a mockery of the U.S. military.
So weve got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits. Pregnant women are going to fight our wars," he said on his Fox News program earlier in the month, referring to newly developed standards in the Army and efforts to create a flight suit for pregnant military personnel. It's a mockery of the U.S. military. While Chinas military becomes more masculine as its assembled the worlds largest navy, our military needs to become, as Joe Biden says, more feminine.
snip
I'm not saying this will be unacceptable to republicans, but the female vote may be seen as just too powerful for him to gain any traction.
I don't see the female vote receding, even if Harris is elected. It's here to stay.
Another problem with Carlson is his demeanor: his perpetual scowl. He is not associated with lightheartedness or being upbeat as are Harris and Walz.
We are entering a new era and I think any future prospects from their position will have to take that into consideration. Carlson has the look of perpetual confusion on his face, which is not a good look when you're coming off of a confused figure like trump.
We're not going back: not to smallness, not to meanness, not to ugly behavior, and Carlson has all that in his background. As a public figure, it is easy to document.
Furthermore, he has the Putin problem (interview). Things do not look good for them on that front, either.
They can nominate him; they just won't be able to win with him.

But Harris/Walz are showing what a laughingstock he is. They're making it clear that he's a loser. They're showing his followers he's just a peculiar, weird, incoherent worm of a man. And that makes people who have made him their savior into weirdo losers too.
Once that truth steeps into the red-hat seas, they won't be able to run away from him fast enough. There will always be a small number who don't get the memo, but I think in a few years, it'll be hard to find someone who admits to being an enthusiastic follower.

(1,213 posts)He's now a convicted felon, so few countries will let him hide out with them. Some of them won't even let him set foot in their lands for that alone.
He can't abide people who 'talk funny,' and he's too old and stupid to pick up a foreign language as many countries require to live there.
Nearly every country that doesn't extradite to the US is brown and/or Muslim. He's alienated nearly all of them, one way or another, so they have zero interest in taking on the hassle he'd be.
Other countries aren't as enthralled with him as moron Americans are, so they won't give him the attention he thinks he's due.
Worst of all: Other countries have real journalists who will not kowtow to him or fluff him. He will not be able to bully them, so they will ask hard questions and demand followups and clarity from him. He can't stand that.
Anyone who thinks he's leaving is missing some fries from their Happy Meal.

Trump is a convicted felon to be sentenced in a month and hes talking about fleeing to a country that refuses US extradition requests, observed MSNBC legal analyst Kristy Greenberg, a former SDNY Criminal Division Deputy Chief. Anyone else would be in jail. Trump is showing yet again that he isnt amenable to Probations supervision and must be sentenced to jail time.
There are countries where TFG could flee which do not have an extradition treaty with the US

If TFG loses, TFG will do what he can to avoid jail.

Wiping him out electorally wont completely get rid of him but it would be humiliating enough to at least maybe not see anything from him for a few months.
Zoomie1986
(1,213 posts)But good luck with that when he won't have a cellphone for social media, won't have unlimited computer access, won't have unlimited phone use, and won't have unlimited access to reporters, because prisons usually limit who can visit a prisoner to family and lawyers.
If he's not dead before he gets locked up, prison will kill him. Guaranteed.

(2,055 posts)Seriously, I think his kids will do him in, assuming Putin doesn't get him first, or Iranian assassins, or the drugs, or deranged MAGA kids, or just his own failing cognitive abilities. Suppose he does have Alzheimer's (and I think he does). In that case, he's also at risk for strokes and brain haemorrhages, a major coronary infarction, or any number of other potential medical conditions.
I think the reality is that even the MAGAts are struggling with him at this point - he's not extreme enough, and they are likely also coming to the same realization about his age and mental capacity. If he loses, he'll be 82 in 2028. Even if he wasn't showing fairly obvious signs of "early" onset Alzheimers, he's not going to lead their revolution.
