At least on TikTok I'm seeing a divide between black/brown people who support the Palestinian cause but also plan to vote for Kamala and what I would call purists / far left / single issue voters who are attacking them for voting.
I don't think the latter group realizes how much damage they're doing and how many supporters they are losing.
Anyone else seeing something similar over the last few weeks? It's gotten very intense over the last few days.

(17,498 posts)What ive seen is many are very binary. There is no grey. Either you are all in anti israeli and everything they say that goes with it or you are the enemy.
There is no in between.
That drives many away.
Not all mind you, bit for those that are vocal, it can appear they speak for most.

(1,079 posts)But I'm shocked to see them attack (vulnerable) minority communities who say they are voting to stop Trump and Project 2025 from ruining their lives.
I've seen even crazier lines of attack but I won't bother repeating them.

(64,638 posts)Recall that pro-Palestinian protesters locked Black housekeeping staff in the building they were occupying overnight. When the housekeepers protested that they needed to get home to their families they were told "this is more important than you."
Also, remember that pro-Palestinians banged into a meeting of Black Democratic organizers and knocked down an elderly lady.
I could go on... plenty of incidents in which privileged white protesters yelled at, assaulted, and illegally detained Black people in the name of something something....
Tells me everything I need to know.

(2,951 posts)And its beginning to exhaust the outrage they had tapped into earlier in the year.
Harris has specifically stated her position that a ceasefire must happen and that the hostages must be released while also standing firm on Israels right to exist.
Pretty much asked and answered. If youre still protesting her and the Dems now the question comes back to why? What more can you expect?

(1,079 posts)It's turning off a lot of people and giving them space to vote for Kamala in November.
I was previously worried about uncommitted or unmotivated young voters, but not any more.

(878 posts)Primarily on Twitter, though. Pro-Palestine people of color especially Black women are (rightfully) calling out the tone-deaf purity police pro-Palestine faction.
Personally, I saw this discourse blow up when some dumb ass tweet went viral that said something like "Americans deserve to suffer for Gaza" or some shit. Black Americans absolutely tore that poster a new one and justifiably so.
Best part? That Twitter user who said Americans deserve to suffer was a Syrian Bashar al-Assad apologist.

Oh the hypocrisy!
Down thread, it was pointed out that she's also Syrian herself. I knew she was British, but just assumed she was British-British......

(878 posts)The Syrian girl who I'm referring to was as white as them, too.
I'm fairly certain that this schism has been building for a while, but it definitely was
something
to witness some clueless white girl explain to marginalized communities how they deserve to suffer even more because of something they can't control. Literally the exact same justification both Hamas used to invade Israel and that Netanyahu's using to bomb Gaza faux moral superiority ploys to try and guilt a whole citizenry for something their government (that citizens cannot control the actions of!!!) is doing.

(30,332 posts)I know Syrian-Armenian Americans who support Assad. I'm Armenian myself. Assad supports the "status quo" and the upper class.
Many likely lean GOP anyway. It's more about Syria than America and she doesn't care about other stuff. Her family is likely well off, so it doesn't matter who wins in her mind.
Assad's supporters will turn it around to make sound like it's all about the "poor colonized, victimized brown people". Their hatred of Israel unites them more than anything.
It doesn't matter whether they're an Assad supporter or a supporter of his opposition. They hate Israel.

With regards to skin color among Syrians, it's quite variable and probably has little to do with economic status. I was being facetious over Assad cuz he just happens to be fair and is married to a European.
I'm sure they're also numerous fair skinned refugees and displaced Syrians. It seems to be more about political views than skin color over there.

(30,332 posts)The relationship is complex because before ISIS, it was more or less status quo. (Bickering and fighting)
Then the Arab Spring, which was anti-Assad. Then Assad unleashed this genocide. Then Obama became anti-Assad. However, Assad unleashed ISIS as part of his retaliation, then the Christians were really pissed at Obama.
Assad was one step ahead of everyone.

(878 posts)This person was a Syrian-American, I'm pretty sure (which confuses me because, I guess, this means she's volunteering herself to suffer even more although we all know she wouldn't), but she had tweets downplaying and straight up denying Assad's atrocities.

(30,332 posts)Biden is white. He's a colonizer.
Kamala isn't white. She can't be a colonizer.
That's how some people think
Also some of the Palestinian Coalition are plain old "anti-old people". Seriously, they just don't want "old".
They associate Biden with "old"...Maybe because he was born in the 40's when Israel was formed?
Who knows? But many protesters just didn't want an old white guy.
Kamala isn't an old white guy....

Non-Democrats who are pro-Palestine weren't gooing to vote for our party anyhow. They will continue to exercise their Amendment 1 right to protest.

(30,332 posts)It started with the National of Islam in the 1960's. Malcolm X went to Saudi Arabia and they told him, "We want you to get the black population to turn against Jews and Israel". They have created extensive propaganda over decades. Listen to Louis Farrakhan.
They've worked on creating blocs to decrease US support for Israel among blacks.

If you check other discussions you can see there was already division. Especially when it came to things like treatment of black people in places like the middle east.
These people have also been attacking Taylor Swift and Beyonce who both have a large following among democratic and liberal leaning women and girls.
