I know I shouldn't be looking a gift horse in the mouth BUT what is with the GOP hatred with

Mitt Romney?

I mean looked at the way the GOP clowns are supporting and EVEN defending Newt and his crazy point of views

Should any of us be worried that Jeb Bush or someone else ends up winning the nomination because they would rather have someone other than Romney?

Honestly it's like an animal eatting it's own.

He's not on top in the polls and didn't finish in the top three in either contest. I think people are getting a bit caught up in last night's debate moment. It's been all over the media because 1) It was a moment of high drama and tension, 2) It was about the media itself, so they are of course all over it

All of a sudden today everyone's talking about how Romney has fallen and Gingrich is on his way to the top (again). I'm usually not somebody who slams the MSM every chance I get, but these last 24 hours have been pretty ridiculous. It really does look like they are trying their best to shape the contest rather than just report on it.

The base has its problems with Romney, which are well known (flip-flopping, Romneycare, etc.). But judging from the polls and voting, they seem to have even more of a problem with Newt, whose problems are also well known (infidelity, being Newt Gingrich, etc.).

If Newt only squeaks by Romney, I'd say that's a defeat for him. To demonstrate his viability, he needs to dominate in a state like SC, which is to him kind of what NH was to Romney (next door, a better political climate for him, etc.). That may indeed happen, if undecideds break for him at the last second. But I wouldn't bet on it.

That's been their thing for forty years.

It's fraying badly. Very badly.

Romney is an unapologetic capitalist scumbag. He's almost a quintessential capitalist - there's nothing there but profit over everything. He's completely meaningless other than as cipher for capitalist accumulation after the structural readjustments of the 1970's. he's not even a patrician like Bush the Elder, Taft, or Henry Cabot Lodge. He's a slimy leveraged buy-out New Capitalist, the scum of the scum -without an ounce of social utility, just the shit dregs of postmodern power.

Gingrich, on the other hand, is a nationalist/racist Populist of the old school. It's why he can get up and inveigh against Bain like he's Jason Compson Junior beating up on the New York Jews for robbing the old farmer class blind. He'd have been a Dixiecrat up until the 1960's. He's utter shit, as close as modern politics gets to a Father Coughlin-Boss Hogg hybrid.

This is the fruit of the Southern strategy, which was always a cover for the most severe capitalist depredation, but relied on the imbecile Southern (white) Populist history to realize the profit.

And it's fraying. Badly, and before our very eyes.
