Nor would it affect the swearing in of the new congress on Jan 3.

New Congress begins January 2nd. If the election certification is contested as threatened in GOP states, can House members from those states be seated? The President is still there to sign at least an emergency CR sent up by whomever is seated then.

As it is, a Government Shutdown over the holidays is going to affect MAGA as much as it does everyone else. Means they have to start budgeting right then if they depend on someone getting paid by the Government, or working on Capital funded contracts during the shutdown. Or have to reschedule or scramble to find services they might need over that period. People will be adversely affected.
That's a minimum of a pay period for some folks, unless they've already put in for holiday leave.

I don't think they can just throw out the ballots that has Harris selected without putting a halt to the certification of all the votes in that state, including the ones for their own seats, especially in purple states. After all, there are RINOs who might vote for a Republican for Governor, the House and Senate, but not for Trump. No matter how much voter suppression the state might attempt.

4. It's the usual 3 month extension. And most aspects of Federal government go on for a few months.
