24. What Trump Bump?

Oct 2024

The networks' own data & financial showed that there was a modest bump that lasted 4 months in 2016.
They're still doing it, but the bump can't be the reason.
Has to be another agenda. Most likely, highly paid execs digging low tax rates.

You can hardly be more anti-Trump than the NYT editorial board (which is separate from the news section), and half of DU thinks they support Trump. I don't get it at all.

The NYT editorial board can make anti-Trump noises in an editorial, which costs them nothing and has little effect other than pandering to their liberal readership, and still fall all over themselves to "both sides" the news, which is in practical effect support for Trump.

What NYT does is worse than if they were out and out in the bag for Trump IMO.

but it's the DECENT thing, and until recently the NORMAL thing to do when a public official is found to have broken the law. I know I'm old fashioned.

Everyone who called for Biden to drop out far preferred Biden to Trump. They thought Trump was so unfit and so dangerous that the country needed a stronger candidate than Biden to defeat him.

So yes, they all want Trump to drop out. Do they explicitly run editorials saying he should? Maybe not, because they know there would be no point. That's all.

I am talking about the media applying the same set of standards to Republicans as they do to Dems. I wasn't making a statement on whether Biden should or shouldn't have dropped out. It's clear that he did the right thing.

People on DU and elsewhere were saying those people supported Trump. The NYT wants Biden to drop out, so they must be supporting Trump. Basically, all sorts of valid opinions were labeled as pro-Trump and dismissed. A lot of people got banned for sharing them.

Sorry-- I shouldn't have jumped on you like that. But it reminded me of a very frustrating time.

25. The double standard

Oct 2024

The point is that there is a double standard.

I don't think the attacks on Biden by the MSM pundits were motivated by a desire to beat Trump. They would have done it no matter Biden's opponent.
