If the GOP here is smart, they'd hurry up and declare that Michigan is a police state
Because, that's where we're headed with the Republicans in charge of this state.
Now, by "smart", I'm not referring to a definition that either you or I would recognize. No. This, of course, is the Michigan Republican Party's definition of the word, meaning "regressive", "anti-democratic", "autocratic", "heavy-handed", "utterly arrogant" and an entire host of other Ghoulishly Odd Political stands that they're running down the throats of Michiganders. For the last two years, that gaggle of Gimpy Ossified Pederasts who's running the show in Lansing have attempted to consolidate their power, by rendering areas of the state that are more beholden to sane and democratic local government, absolutely moot.
By passing a heavily altered form of the previous iteration of the state's Emergency Manager law, our Gory On Purpose Governor, Rick "The Nerd" Snyder and the all of the Grifters Or Perps who are running amuck in the state legislature, have gone out of their way to nullify locally elected governments, appropriate (i.e., steal) local public assets, close public schools, attack public sector union contracts and generally create an atmosphere of hopelessness, loss of control and chaos.
It's not enough for these Greedy Old Pricks to have control of the state, due to the loss of population in the traditionally Democratic voting part of our Winter Wonderland, down here in the lower part of the Lower Peninsula. Flint and below… Whatnot. Nah, these Gobsmacked Obstructionist Paternalists are going completely apeshit on the power that they're holding. They're mainlining it, like Speedball junkies and there is nothing to stop them from running the needle tracks all way up to their silly heads. The demographics over the past ten years have upset the balance. We have lost House seats due to our population loss and the entire state is at the mercy of a Grand Oil Party that has jumped off the edge of the ideological cliff into an abyss of political insanity.
I don't care how bad your own Guards Of Plutocrats are in whatever state you live. Here in Michigan, ours have proven to be the worse of the very worst.
They are nullifying locally elected city governments. Where ELSE is this happening in this country? And the ripping away of local elected governments was just the beginning. In later months they have gone out of their way to restrict access to women's health services and more. Much, much more.
This will increase the number of out of unwanted pregnancies, wedlock births and hamper the ability of families to postpone having both first born and additional children until poor ad working class Michigan families are ready. This will create an additional financial burden, create more demand for government assistance and cause more of a strain on already inadequate public resources.
Women, who are unable to get preventative medical attention, will die. What will happen to their families? Their children? What will be the long term effect of poor and working class children growing up without a parent? When these kids grow up, many without guidance and abandoned by the system, they will invariably turn to crime. Creating the need for more police and more jails and more restrictive laws.
See where I'm going?
With national wage rates already plateaued for the last twenty years, the Grumpy Old Psychos in Lansing have engaged in the Koch Brothers/ALEC inspired war on unions. Overnight, Michigan was recently converted into a Right-To-Work state by the Michigan State Legislature. Obviously, this has Gone Over Poorly. because just in the last election the citizens of this state had pretty much cut the throats of union members by rejecting an amendment to the state constitution which would have protected collective bargaining.
Yeah, kill wages, kill the ability to protect those hard fought wages and benefits and stab in their hearts the workers who are fighting for them. You hear that? It's Walter Reuther spinning in his grave. Thank you, you mob of Glutinous Obsolescent Posers and the assholes you voted to put in charge of all of us. Without opposition, they're going to Gamble Our Pennies away on their hare-brained, Right Wing, Ayn Rand inspired experiments and leave us all holding the bill. The Nerd implied as much when he ran for Governor under a banner of thinking outside of the box and all of that bullshit. His outside was designed by the Kochs and we all know it.
Now the punchline to this joke. As you all know, Republicans are hellbent on portraying themselves as the "Personal Responsibility Party".
- Lose your job? It's your fault that you can't find one.
- Get pregnant? Your fetus is more important than you, your children or your own life.
- Can't make ends meet from being underpaid? It's your fault that you're not markable enough to make a sufficient wage.
- Have to steal to survive? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
- Unions kill jobs, your public schools will do a better job as for profit institutions, your public lands need to be sold for private use, your employers should be able to fire you for any reason at all. We are at their mercy.
All in all, the Gloomy Old Paranoids who are in charge of the government, are blaming YOU if you live here, for the problems that they themselves have created and are washing their hands clean of every working stiff in this state.
But people are fighting back. But alas, pretty soon THAT will be against the law too, you'll see. The attack dogs in blue will sweep down in great vengeance, armed with pepper sprayers and batons to disperse the unruly rabble. Keep it up and find yourself a resident in some newly fabricating, privately operated detention factory facility. Can't find a job now? They'll make sure that you've got one.
We are on a seriously steep and highly slippery slope in this state, thanks to the Republicans, who are driven by their own Genetics, Organized Putridly and in their dangerously deranged malfeasant governance… And they're not yet finished by a long stroke.
