Cry more, please.
By Conover Kennard November 22, 2024
Bluesky is a great social media platform where you don't feel like you're walking into a cage fight daily. Xitter, on the other hand, does not moderate content, and many of the MAGA users are abusive.
On BlueSky, I have received zero death threats, nor have I seen maps circulated of my home. That happened on Xitter, though, and I reported them to no avail.
MAGA feels censored on Bluesky because they can't be dicks on the social media site that has been taking in about a million users per day. Newsweek seems to be taking sides with the abusive MAGA assholes.

(1,272 posts)I'm having trouble finding more people to follow, as I don't want political sites, or newspapers, or pundits. Makes it hard to really settle on someone, since you have to read a bunch of posts to see if they post enough, and are sane enough or interesting enough.
I did read most of what George Takai has posted, but it's almost all political stuff -- all of which I agree with -- but I'm pretty much off politics for a while. I may end up not reading or posting here, even.

(3,456 posts)Maybe Bluesky can teach them how to act in a society by enforcing a consistent set of rules.
The feelings are mutual I'm sure 😅 And that does nothing to help.
Doesn't do anything for helping the country, the people in it, etc. Its nice when you're well enough off to be insulated, but the average Dem struggling day to day doesn't care about all the academic arguments. They are trying to survive. Kitchen table issues...
Sounds like we should just let the R's finish off the Gov. then at least then there won't be a Gov left to use against the other.
If we're never going to recognize another R and they've already shown they'll never recognize a D, then it well and truly is over.
The United States is through. Let's stop pretending there even is a United States then.

That picture is inaccurate, they should have all had at least two chins.

was block all of the maga idiots. Someone curated a list that automatically adds them when they join the website, and I simply blocked anyone who gets added to that list.
Its a thing of beauty, and Im enjoying the bright blue skies over there.

Arrgh
(17 posts)is that some accounts shouldn't be on there. This list has a great DJT parody account that is hilarious, e.g. he appoints the Hamburglar to the Department of Hamburger Safety, etc. The owner also has a parody Elon and parody RFKjr account.
So far I'm fine with just plucking them out as they pop up in feeds. I haven't been there long so I don't see many.

"Waah, waah! Everyone's left-wing! Media bias! We're being censored! Why aren't our uninformed views being treated with equal respect? Why cant we be as offensive to people as we want, every second of every day? Waah!"
The fuck are you clowns still whining about? You already managed to successfully conquer one major mainstream social media network for the sole purpose of being unrepentant assholes. How many more do you fucking need before you stop feeling "persecuted" for being idiots?
They genuinely think they have the freedom to say whatever the fuck they want anywhere they want without fear of consequences. Emphasis on those last four words.
Fuck off and stay in your dingy-ass corner of the Internet with all the other Muskrats.

(52,056 posts)when I was the owner/editor of my local newspaper, the rightwingers were always mad at me because I would not allow them to spew their hateful garbage in my paper. They accused me of censorship because I told them that if they wanted to write about policies, I would print it. If they just wanted to call people names, I would not.
They were furious. I just told them that when they owned the newspaper, they could print anything they wanted. Until then, I was going to publish only facts and true debates.

(25,002 posts)Bluesky has the ability to create starter kits. You can make a follow list, a block list, what have you. It makes it much easier for those right-wing stalker trolls to be blocked en masse.

(19,853 posts)Same here. That in no way hampers magats from making their own sites where they can spew shit to their heart's content. In fact, they already have 2 ready made. What they don't understand is private property and the fact that Jackass isn't a protected class under federal law. Our rules apply in our house. Don't like it, go to your own house.
Attilatheblond
(5,052 posts)Since the bush years, they never understood privately owned sites having the right to enforce their own rules and limits to 'speech'. I recall seeing complaints about DU 'violating free speech' way back when I lurked in the early years.
Lots of MAGAs have the same inability to recognize others' property rights regarding carrying firearms too. They think their 2nd A magic powers allow them to bring weapons onto property that others own.

Metaphorical
(2,370 posts)(I don't have links handy, but will post when I do) that the X-odus is well underway right now from Xitter, not only in terms of users but in terms of advertisers, and there's almost no migration to the platform nor advertiser support coming into it. About 55% of members are going to Bluesky, 35% to Threads, the remainder to various other platforms. Most are keeping their X Accounts to prevent others from using them.
There are those who will remain loyal to X, but they were already loyal to Musk and peripherally to Trump, but X isn't getting a lot of new traction at this point, and the social media are polarizing pretty much along existing red/blue lines. X-files generally do not fare well on Bluesky - the culture there is built around the notion that you can permanently block people, which you can't do in X, and most of the hard core trolls usually find themselves out in the cold when they bring their sociopathic behavior to bluesky.
erronis
(17,648 posts)The proximate cause of it is the role that Elon Musk, owner of X (née Twitter), played in the election of Donald Trump, when a significant proportion of the platforms 200 million-plus users realised that theyd been had that they had, in effect, been useful idiots for Musk on his path to the centre of political power.
There had been an Xodus once before in October 2022, when Musk took over Twitter as people fled to a new, open-source network called Mastodon, but it was on a much smaller scale. At its peak in November 2022 it had 2.5 million users, but that number has dropped to just under 1 million now. The stampede to Bluesky is on an altogether bigger scale.

(188,396 posts)Gee how terrible for them.
Im not on BlueSky yet. The appeal to me of Twitter was the humor. There are a lot of very funny people out there. Then it turned into a oneupsmanship contest on outrage usually based on complete bullshit and extrapolated speculative rumors.

(389 posts)There are a lot of MAGAs who have joined recently so they can troll - mostly through replies. Most everyone just ignores and blocks them though. It is great. I haven't been on Bluesky long, but have already been blocked by a MAGA who was misappropriating RBG's photo. I did call her out on it before I blocked her. I'm wearing her block like a badge of honor. First time I've (knowingly) been blocked on a social media platform.

(12,278 posts)I made one little post on X recommending someone move to BlueSky and I got hit with replies from jerks about how were weenie liberals and cowards for moving. As if abuse is going to make us want to stay on X? As I said, every time we get insulted on X, an X refugee gets its butterfly wings. That really pissed them off.
