20% tariffs on coffee, America's favorite drug.
My theory is that there will be a drop-off of Starbucks when a small regular costs $6.00.

(12,223 posts)Actually, it's kind of poetic justice, all those MAGA Walmart and Home Depot customers about to take it up the tailpipe due to the tariffs.

(3,384 posts)I believe coffee is mostly imported.
The price of chocolate will go up as well as cocoa beans are mostly imported.

(49,015 posts)We need to prepare to yell at the reporters who try to work in their bothsiderisms when we fully know it's Trump's fault.
And what we need to do because we now know the public is dumb, is say preemptively what we expect is going to happen in the next term when Trump makes one of his cast-off, uninformed decisions like he did with the pulling out of Afghanistan.

(148,398 posts)the 1773 tea tariff caused a pretty big uproar here in the colonies, I believe.

(3,766 posts)How much is that sweet tea?
Really expect the free refills to go away at restaurants or fast food places. If they stay free theres going to be a big cost change.
Businesses wont know if a country will tick off tfg next week and he adds another 20% tariff. Inventory costs will go up.

(53,826 posts)consume, it will be rare and just as expensive as Columbian with a tariff.

(2,658 posts)...and it's usually a lower percentage in that blend. I've never seen 100% Kona in a store. I would guess you might be able to get it in Hawaii, but not many other places. It would be outrageously expensive. I also have my doubts that Hawaii could suddenly become the sole supplier (or even a major supplier) of the nation's coffee, all because the Trump regime doesn't understand economics or agriculture.

(53,826 posts)President-elect Trump has promised to impose steep new taxes on trade, including a 10-20 percent tariff on all imports, at least a 60 percent tariff on Chinese imports, and a 25-100 percent tariff on Mexican imports.

(7,337 posts)If he does put a 20% tariff on coffee, it would be a big deal to many of us. But Starbucks' cost for raw coffee has to be a small part of their costs.
